I don't think being a mother is a medical qualification and I am not sure it is necessary to end a reply with LOL.
Unfortunately you know how to produce children but have very little knowledge of medicine - you wrote "when there's an infection there's usually fever and that's when you need antibiotics" and that is nonsense. Viral infections also cause fevers but do not respond to antibiotics - doctors' waiting rooms are crowded with people seeking antibiotics when they are not only of NO use but are actually harmful (being a mother you probably know about antibiotic resistance due to over use).
You also state that "But if it is something that can be fixed with vitamins or food, then there is no need to go to the hospital." That is another piece of nonsense. Tell me which illnesses can be fixed with food - I won't dispute vitamins (PART of food, incidentally) because, like religion, it is a belief in many cases.
You seem a nice person but I cannot allow such totally inaccurate information being put out there without correction by someone, who although he fails to have children, has a fair degree of medical knowledge by training and experience.

To add a little spice to the coversation the World Health Organization (WHO) ranks US healthcare as about number 32 in quality and it is twice as expensive and the next highest. Every European country, scandanavian, Canada, Australia and some pacific rim countries have better healthcare.
WHO ranks the Phils at about 62 I think if i remember correctly. The cost is a tiny fraction of US care. I have always felt since since expats have the resources to select the best care in the Phils that our experience is probably much better than the 62 accorded to the system.
I spent my whole life working in the healthcare system of the US. I am satisfied with my experience in Dumaguete. People always think bigger is better. Taint necessarily so- Like x 5

Thread locked. Pointless bickering, off topic, personal attacks, panties getting twisted, misuse of the post rating system. This should stop. I'll give the user causing most of these problems one last chance to fix this behavior before warning points are issued.

Also, her operation had to be repeated at Holy Child - it was not exactly the same but was similar (in fact, it is quite possible the extent of the operation in Silliman was unnecessary and she could have had just the operation in Holy Child). Prices: Silliman - 3 days inpatient (IMO totally unnecessary even to be an inpatient) at P87.000; Holy Child - 15 minutes stay and a cost of P5000. There were other issues at Silliman, which I will not go into here, but there is a doctor there I would not use even if I was dying.- Informative x 4

Certainly Filipino nurses and carers are highly rated for compassion and work ethic. It is their culture to respect the elderly and so do not have the negative attitudes staff have from some other countries. They work abroad to care for themselves and their families at home and so do not look to avoid doing the job they are employed for - again unlike some other nationals.
I recently had a blood test in the Philippines and the Filipina nurse was incredibly good, both in manner and in competence. Once I had blood taken by a nurse in my own country and I was in great pain and almost asked her to stop after she had made about 8 STABS (no more appropriate word!) at a very prominent vein. I was left bruised and shaken. This Filipina nurse was totally the opposite and had I had my eyes closed I would not even have been aware of the procedure.
But in many countries they do have to undergo further training before starting the job.- Like x 5

Silliman has worked for my family. My wife had a C-Section giving birth and I survived a serious stroke and my son has had 8 years of checkups there.

Ever try arguing with a Filipina mother about what is wrong with a child, you or herself or the best cure? I have asked mine several times where her Medical Degree is so we can put up the shingle.
Most times a discussion you will never win.- Agree x 3

I accept we all try some home remedies for what appear to be very simple problems - but sometimes we can be getting it wrong. It is interesting that most of us who take the car into the garage when we hear an unusual sound, fail to take ourselves to the doctor when we notice an equivalent difference in our own body.- Like x 2
