Blocked sinuses and dizziness are related. I am not aware of the link with tinnitus but the internal ears mechanisms include balance - and dizziness can be related to balance.

You may be aware that the throat connects to the middle inner ear via the Eustachian tube and so any throat infection could affect the ears - one effect of dysfunction of the Eustachian tube is tinnitus.

So it may well be that your symptoms are related to a common cause and it is wise to have that checked. Please do not rely on anything I have written here to substitute for a qualified doctor checking you.

    Hope all goes well.

Totally agree about the doctors fees, sometimes ridiculous and feels like any doctor passing by on the floor sticks his nose in a minute just to charge their daily fee. And said daily fee sometimes is based on the room rate - got a nice single bed room, pay double or triple.

Even with philhealth and additional private insurance we've had quite some unpleasant surprises in silliman when it came to settling the bill. Once we left after three days and flew our toddler to cebu because nobody was able to make a proper diagnosis. Saw a specialist in cebu, two nights in UC med, case solved.

So I'd also say, silliman is OK for the simple stuff, but if you have the slightest doubt, go at least to cebu for a second opinion.

A good friend of mine was admitted to sumc with a chronic lung condition, the family is poor but they were delivered there and the next day the girl was admitted into icu.
She did recover after a week and the bill was just under 200k.
The issues they had was the immense pressure the admin put them under to keep paying while they were in there, the nurses in icu were rude and thoughtless,it was dirty.
They had managed to pay 2/3 of the bill with help from the family and local politicians and filhealth.
She was told pcso cannot be used in sumc which after 2 months found out different and can be used. The issue here is the admin do not like pcso as it comes as a promisary note and usually paid around 2 months after the note, admin in sumc will lie about this every time.
I helped her write a complaint letter to the general manager about the situation and it was ignored.
Its ok for all us westerners who can pay these huge medical costs but the locals struggle to find the money every time.
I would never ever reccomend sumc to anyone with their attitude. Money 1st!

I am not sure if you mean you have forgotten the name of the doctor who treated your blocked ears, but I think you wrote at the time (or someone else did) "Dr SIMON Flores at Silliman Medical Center. You have to go there just before 7am when the guard issues you a computer printed appt time ticket at 7am. Sit on the immediate right inside the doors which is for senior citizens as they get the first tickets".

hey jimeve, well the doctor would be more important than the hospital for you i think. do you have a general or family practice doctor? ask them for suggesstions for an ENT (ear, nose and throat) board certified specialist is my guess on what they would recommend. you can probably go to SU/Ace/HolyChild and check their physician roster for ENT specialists for who is available in dumaguete. i would not allow myself to get talked into letting a non specialist evaluate the condition you are describing. if you do not find an ENT specialist in dumaguete city that you feel comfortable then by all means invest in a trip to cebu city to find that person.

i will guess you should expect a chest x-ray and laryngoscopy. they may want to do barium swallow studies with a fluroscope. so much depends on what the first steps find as far as any issues. i wouldn't get overly excited but neither would i delay getting a qualified ENT doc to take a look.

If you have trauma here, (e. g. road accidents etc), the majority are passable. Anything more serious, as others have said Cebu, e. g. Chung Hua, Cebu Doctors etc etc. Personally, I go to Manila, where I know 'one gets what one pays for'. However, there again, I pay an annual med insurance premium to a European company that is accepted in all the hospitals up north.

well, good idea to plan ahead. all expats i know who have voiced an opinion to me choose silliman.

my choice is holy child because my dr (johnny yee) is head of family practice there. i did use their er for bell's palsy paying 12.50 US for an er visit which included medication and the dr (a silliman senior resident)

good to have the feedback on ACE. its right by my house and i was wondering about it. i think its a chain with hosptals in other locations as well.

First off I don't need one.

But if I moved to Dumaguete what hospitals are available. What are they like for surgery? Anyone had any experience?

I ask this as it's a concern to me, I feel as a expat this is important. Also my sport is a bit risky and the odd hospital trip sort of happens a bit.
