I avoid going to hospitals here as much as possible but recently i had no choice, first we went to my wife's doctor at Holy child and was referred to a specialist at Silliman, both of these places had vastly overcrowded waiting areas, in fact there is no waiting area at Holy child just a corridor with people sitting both sides. Why all the waiting ? simple answer, no appointment system, first come first served, i know most Filipinos can't stick to times and don't have a watch never mind a calendar but why penalise everybody for this. I just wish that all the money wasted on unnecessary replacement of concrete roads could be channelled into upgrading medical care. But what do i know, i am only a (strict) foreigner.
I have been using online consultant doctors for minor issues through the app "NowServing". I recently had tonsilittis which I was able to be assessed and prescribed meds through the old innerwebs thus avoiding the having to drive, find a parking space and waiting with 100 sick people to get treated.
I was waiting at Holy Child when I met a guy who had travelled from Siquijor, only to find the clinic was closed for the day. But in family experiences of Silliman and Holy Child, we found the private room at HC far better.
