No workers due to the holiday, but some more pics The wife was cleaning and taking care of things on the site today and was able to send some more pictures. Shawn
As a builder myself, looks like you and your wife are doing a great job building a very strong and beautiful home... Good job......Hope to see it one day...
Thank you and I hope you can stop by during the build. I truly appreciate all comments, my goal is really to show folks that you can build a house in the Philippines but you need the correct support. Shawn
Some pics from today I was surprised, being Easter, that we had 6 workers that wanted to work today. No complaints from me as the did not work on Friday. Shawn
It's good that you have some gung ho members of your work crew. It is strange that they find Good Friday more relevant than Easter Sunday though.
I'm not Catholic, so find some of the "extended" vacations a bit confusing. Was really surprised to have folks on site, but no complaining from me...I want to keep pressing forward. The wife originally wanted everyday to be a work day, had to convince her that folks can't work for months without a day off so that is when we went to a Sunday option as well as making it a day to make a few more peso's if you wanted to work it. Got to say she was "mostly" right as the folks that want to work Sunday were mostly the ones that were working it before getting extra pay to do it. A solid 3 months into the build, most would want to take time, but getting paid for every days chance to work..I understand where many folks are at. Shawn
Couple pics from today I decided to pour the beams and roof slab in one placement so the supports for the roof are going in now. The EVG panels for the roof/ceiling will go between the beams with the bottom bar going through the wire mesh of the panels. The first shipment of EVG panels will be on-site in the next couple of days; the only had 1/2 of what I need in stock so it will be another week or so before we get the rest. Shawn
Shawn , did you use your perimeter fence to set your grid off of ? cause if you did , I have found it quite a good way of doing it over the years , so you don't continually lose your profiles through excavation and such , just curious , once those marks are on the fence you can't lose them . Tony
Tony, I went with 6" block below grade then put in a 6" tie beam and then switched over to 4" block. The top of the tie beam is at finish grade and the house sits a foot above finish grade. I was there at the time so it wasn't too hard to explain what and why to the foreman. Shawn
Couple pics from today The way we did the stairs going to the guest house is how we'll be doing the exterior stairs going up to the roof as well as around the hand pump for the well. I'm not sure why the guys were thinking I would be putting EVG panels at the overhang and the carport, so they need to raise the formwork up and put plywood down. Good news (to me at least) is that the first order of EVG panels arrives on-site tomorrow. The wife spent 3 days figuring out how to get them, even spent yesterday and a bit today in Cebu; she did get to spend time with her aunt and cousin so it wasn't all work. Shawn
