Concrete placement is on for Sunday Even though the "electricians" did not exactly follow my drawings, I can make it work and I do have the flexibility with the EVG panels as part of the ceiling and walls to abandon some of what they did and "chip" out some of the Styrofoam if I need to relocate some conduit a bit. The wife said the pressure test went well for the water lines (no pics though). 32 workers and my cement mixer with another one she rented so the placement will go ahead tomorrow, hopefully she takes some good pictures of everything. Roof slab concrete placed It took over 19 hours with some extremely exhausted guys but the slab has been placed. The roof will be tiled later so the finish was not most important, sloping towards the down spouts was. I was honestly a bit worried with using the EVG panels as part of the roof/ceiling system, but there were no issues. The rest of the house build is pretty simple and will go fast once the jacks/supports and forms are pulled in about a week. It was after 0200 when the wife got back to the apartment, so she crashed before sending me all the pics she took from today so I will post some more later. Shawn
Shawn your thread (errr and your good lady's efforts) has built up a great portfolio of pictures. It is to be applauded for the stream of info you have given also. I have thought of a name for your house. Fort Knox! ......cheers buddy.
Thanks John. I would never have taken on building a house without boots on the ground if it was not for the confidence I had in the wife being able to handle things. The good thing is that the hard part is done, I'll be there in days not weeks so we will get a lot of work done while I am there. The house is going to be pretty stout; it is really about doing things the correct way. I'll continue posting pics as well as saying what goes well and what challenges come up. Shawn
Roof slab concrete placed Actually it was the opposite; they started out pretty strong, slowed down quite a bit during the heat of the day and were just spent come evening from the length of the day, the heat and lifting buckets of concrete all day. We still have columns and beams to do for the metal roof so I plan on coming up with a gin pole and pulley system to get the concrete up there a bit easier/more efficient. Shawn
Removing some formwork I let them remove the forms around the edges of the beams; for one I wanted to look at the concrete and two they are going to start on formwork/rebar for the exterior stairs. For the most part it looks pretty good, some minor honey combing with one area by a column that was the worst of what was removed. All honey combing was patched with a mix of cement, the waterproofing sahara stuff and some sand. The jacks and remaining formwork will not be removed until Saturday. The wife has done a good job making sure the slab is kept wet as it cures these first few days. Shawn
I have about an hour before I head out to the local airfield and begin my trip back to the Philippines, I really hope to meet up, at some point with you guys and put down some beers. Shawn
Sounds great Larry, we'll spend the next couple nights in Manila (the wife needs a break once in a while) and will be back on Saturday. Shawn
