View attachment 10180 Hi Shawn , I found a pic of your property on my computer , small world my friend , regards Tony
Tony, When I first designed the house over a year ago I spoke with a company (if I remember right, out of Cebu). Solar was quoted around $40,000 USD. Way to expensive and I do not have the space to install anyway. Wind was a bit cheaper. I still have the wind idea in my head, but want to see how things build up in that area as they are saying most of the lots have been sold. To keep the costs down I was thinking just to power the important things so I would not have to run my noisy generator. I've never been out there when there wasn't a good breeze, plus the footprint is much smaller. I will have around 16 solar LED lights around the house (have a few up now) and a solar water heater. We also dug a well as the water outages and pressure around Tugas sucks, as I'm sure you are well aware of. I'd love to go totally of grid but just can't justify the costs right now. I will look more into wind generation later though because it is something that interests me. Shawn
Hi Shawn , 40 grand is just insane , in oz $14,000 and you never pay elec again with solar , I have some friends who receive payments from supplier for what they put back to the grid , I would reckon there if you got the panels yourself and the inverter , out of china should be $ 6000 and then install , no more elec bill , can be done anytime . In the 11 yrs I have been going there you do get to experience some outrageous quotes , they just price themselves out of a job from being greedy , tony
Tony, I could have always been quoted a "special" rate as well. For $14K I would have jumped on it. I would have to put on the roof if I ever went with solar, I think for my lot size wind would be a much better option. The local electric company is a bit of a pain (topic for another day) and I would love to not have to pay them for electricity. I'll have to look into China to see what they have to offer, I've ordered some things in the past but got nailed with duties once it was delivered. Shawn
Wall footings are getting formed Hello all, A few pics from today; there will be a ceiling in the bedroom of the nipa so that is starting to get framed. The rebar and forms are going in for the wall footers and should be able to place concrete tomorrow. The pics don't show it, but they got the ground good and wet before leaving for the day so we should not have any issues with the dirt "sucking" water out of the crete. I'll use a vapor barrier for the slab, but don't think it is necessary for the footings. Shawn
Hi Shawn like double glazing I think Solar panels will come down in price eventually. So best to keep on hold or resource from China as suggested. keep the photos coming. Good luck with the rest of the build. JB
I agree JB, solar panels will come down in price as the technology gets better. Solar LED light fixtures are almost near what you'd pay for a powered fixture and the few we've installed have worked flawless. Shawn
Bamboo blinds Heavy rain today so no concrete placement. I did want to post a pic of some bamboo blinds/screens that I thought looked really cool, hard to see in the picture so I apologize for that. I personally hate curtains and have always preferred vertical or horizontal blinds. The ones the wife put in at the nipa are not quite what you would want in your house, but will be keeping my eyes open on my next R&R. Shawn
