P8 is around downtown not a senior citizen's privilege. Robinson's is a bit far so P10 is considered fair enough especially that he had 3 passengers. Lee to Hypermart is considered "very far"from downtown hence the tip. Maybe you didn't hear her say to the driver: "Hypermart, 15" otherwise the driver would have said no.
Next time, tell him: "Owatorn!?"(are you kidding me)![]()

That's probably a good idea. I know if I sit on the front seat of the trike it becomes very unstable. No trike driver has ever let me sit in that seat. If there are people in the cab seats I just hop on the back of the motorcycle, which is more comfortable for everyone. (Just have to be careful not to get your kneecaps shaved off by on-coming traffic...watch where you are going if you take that seat.)

I gave your post a "conditional like" but Dustin did not add an icon for it so let me explain.
Most 5 minute rides on a trike that is picking up additional fares when available are not worth more than 10 pesos per person and that is what I would offer, BUT I like what you are saying, because if the trike driver says that is not enough and he wants 20 for that ride I am going to give it to him with a smile and realize: Lesson learned, next time tell in advance where you are going and what you will pay and let him decide in advance if that is enough.-

I just popped round to my neighbour who is the SEC of the Trike Drivers/Owners association and asked about this
He tells me the Official rate is 8 peso for the First KM then 0.50peso for each part of the next Km then at 8 peso for each Km after. On Longer Journeys there is no real Tariff and each Driver arranges the fare with whoever. he tells me that they were never really for Longer Journeys that say 5 km but over the Years things just escalate
As already said, we will never know just what an exact fare is, so to me if it sounds right just go ahead
Based on that, a 10km Ride would be 80 peso per person
Mind I am not too sure how they would know how far things are as most don't have a working Speedo/Mileometer. So is it any wonder they just think of a Figure-

I experienced this many times. Trike drivers wanting p60 when there is a bus behind I can get for p15! They need to make a living but also need to understand 'market forces' and making best use of their equipment.-

Their attitude hasn't changed as far as I can remember, and that's like even 30 years ago when I was 'old enough' to take the trike by myself

Not the same thing. In Manila there are published fares taxis 'must' adhere to. As evidence by so many pages on this topic, and not the first time, while there is a minimum fare amount set (something like p6.5/p8 for senior/standard) but there is Nothing about fares for place to place or distance or anything. Just 'I paid this and they were happy/mad' past experience and guesswork as to what is 'correct'.
I made a couple dozen trips from Hermogina apartments south of Robinson Mall to a laundry I liked north of Silliman University (just past White Tip Divers where they fill up the big water trucks). Not one complaint in either direction, p10 every time (all trips were between 9am and 4pm) yet Dave gets called cheap for paying the same for a shorter trip.
edit: also while staying next to Flamin Grill Cafe (again, north of Silliman) made a few trips to Hypermart, p10 was what he asked for. Just depends on the mood of whatever driver you get at the time I suppose.
hahaha my mind is kicking in it seems... I have also been told no, no negotiation just drove off, a couple times at 6-7pm going from the Cathedral downtown to Hermogina apts. I waved, he stopped, I said how much to Hermogina, he said what do you offer, I said p20, he shook his head and drove off empty without comment. Still not sure what those guys were thinking...-

I don't see why this would not apply to pedicabs as well;
Duterte: Arrest erring taxi drivers for swindling, estafa

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday advised the riding public to start reporting erring taxi drivers to the police.
"Kayong kinukolektahan ng more than the usual or exorbitant fares, do not go to the LTFRB [ Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board], you go to the police," Duterte said.
In an interview with PTV, the president said taxi drivers who charge exorbitant amounts could be liable for estafa.
"I am ordering the police to arrest them. For what? Estafa. That's a crime, swindling," he added.
While Duterte admitted that taxi drivers were among those vocal in supporting his bid for the presidency, he said he wants to "instill discipline."
"I am not trying to scare you," Duterte told taxi drivers. "I am just trying to put sense into your heads."
Duterte also advised taxi drivers to petition the government to increase taxi rates instead of overcharging passengers.
"There are rates prescribed by government. If drivers are not happy with the amount, all they have to do is to petition the government for a higher fare."

Maybe all it woud take is a few of us to file estafa charges against these vultures to put a stop to this. it has been going on far too long.-

Yes thank you that makes perfect sense and I agree 100% with that statement.
THAT is very wrong and people who work with that ethic should be avoided at all costs, as they say; "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar."
