Mark here iant, I'm an American and I worked as a seaman coming back and forth to here at work, than traveling around the islands with Mama while I'd be on vacation. 10+ years I considered where I'd like to live over here, and, taking everything into account, Dumaguete seemed to be the best suited place for a foreigner like me to live. Baguio was right up there for me also, but its location is too far away from everything. But than I lucked out and found Valencia. Thats the clean, cool town up the mountain from Dumaguete. Gives us the convenience and comfort of modern Dumaguete, minus the heat, noise and pollution. Check out Valencia next visit. Or if you decide to locate to Dumaguete you can be reassured the grass doesn't get much greener. Cheers, Mark C
Seem Valencia is one of the fav locations.Though we have the option living just up north of Dumaguete but it's way up to travel ,reality strikes thinking of our coming old age decades from now,i don't like to travel that long just to do major shopping,or eat out .We like the idea being close to amenities with just about 15-20 minutes away.We looked around and was fixated in Valencia , and not long found a our piece too with less problems . We like the idea of like living in the mountain but near the city and near the sea . One of the aspects which glued us to Valencia it's few degrees cooler ,fresh air,and soil is very fertile. We have looked into people's thriving gardens as we drove along ,with variety of flowers growing, even flowers that I only see here in the west ,growing nicely like the bizzy lizzies, dahlias , some i haven't have clue with names ,it just amused me.Because I love gardening ,it's the right place. If you go up further there are areas with nice overlooking views too ,of dmaguete city the Tanon strait, and tip of cebu island..
We have a really nice view from where we're at. And I can relate with being too far out of town. We lived in Bais for a while up the coast and had to come to Dumaguete to get anything anyway. Its better to be close enough that the drive is short and easy.
Hello Iant, Welcome, just want to wish you luck with your wishes of living in the phils one day..... smed
