I have a few containers here in Korea where I grew some cherry tomatoes, mild Korean pepper and Okra last year. From late last fall and through the winter I would put some veggie scraps in and turned everything over this spring and figured we would see what would pop up this year.

I have a few plants with red leaves that have come up and have no clue what they are and was hoping someone might have some insight. I've watched them pop up with the first leaves being green, which started turning red when their first true leaves came in so I'm leaning against them just being weeds. They are slow growing as this is over a months growth at about 2" tall.

    Thanks!

    Shawn

It does look similar to the maple trees that are common here and is one of the ideas I have had, but getting the seeds to the roof of the little apartment building would need some bird intervention. There are 4 of them that have popped up in just one of the three containers.

I have less than a 2 months left here so hopefully I can figure things out before I leave. One of my staff members will take the containers and replant what he wants on his farm so, if they are maples, I should hear something back.

I think you guys are correct, much thanks. Had a BBQ party the other day and asked one of the Koreans what he though it was...me "I think it may be a Korean maple tree"....response "tree...no good". The visual action to take out can't be replicated.

Pulled them out and am watering the other plants to see how they do before I head home for awhile and hope there is some rain as my lawn is totally trashed again in the PI.

After all that discussion. You killed it? Everyone who participated in this thread has blood on their hands. It's like the maple tree holocaust over there and you guys just pointed at it and said "it's a maple tree!" Can we move this thread to the "In Memoriam" section?

It was unfortunate, but they were not going to be transplanted to a future farm and were sucking nutrients from the containers that could be best used for some veggies. The peppers and tomatoes that are popping up will find a better life once transplanted next month when I leave Korea.

Another tragedy is that I'm starting to think I will have to cull the Kohlrabi that I started from seed back in March. We had a mild winter and an early Spring, and with temps hitting the 90's the past couple days I believe they will bolt and go to seed. Normally March is about right but not this year.

Can't complain too much as I hate the cold and the weather definitely helped get us ahead of schedule on my current project here on the civil parts of the job.

    Thanks all!

    Shawn
