WHoa there matey! Jack can be a naughty Guy sometimes, being English, I have a very Vivid and sometimes Weird sense of Proper and Humour. Siding with me is Good to Hear BUT I have some adversaries out there my friend. it is good to see that someone has grasped the situation here. friendship request on its way!:D Jack P.
I have to say that this seems a bit petty. Yeah, it makes you look cheap but the markup for foreigners more than makes up for it. If they want to take the risk then that's on them. I really don't care.
As the original writer of the article, I think I should update you by showing you the following link: More fun in the Philippines for foreign seniors: 20-pct discounts - InterAksyon.com As you can read there, the government is checking if the rule can also be implemented for us, foreigners.
I hate cheapskates and and thieves, and for a foreigner to take the little bit of money intended to help care for the oldsters here.... tO ME, That qualifies them as both cheap and dishonest
All a business has to do is say No US Naval losses in retaking the Philippines during WWII were 4500 killed in action. 1000 US soldiers died retaking Manila. - I'll take the discount thank you If you want to help oldsters I am sure there's plenty you could do
I would just like to make a point that seems to missing here.. most of us here pay more a month in visa fee's etc than a lot of Pinoys earn and we definitely pay a lot more in tax to be a "Guest" here.O-| That being said i would never dream of trying to get a discount on anything here..If you feel it's your right you are just a "Cheap C#@*t, and shoudn"t be here.
Its basically a cultural thing, when my Asawa and I visit my family in the US, we are considered guests and not allowed to pay for anything for any reason. It's a little different here as any expatriot can tell you. But to blame the reason for you to expect discounts because of the sacrifices of brave men who were killed decades before you were born is a bit despicable. Ever heard of the "Philippine insurrection? 1.4 million Philippinos, mostly non-combatants, lost their lives in what was commonly referred to at the time as an act of genocide. Read about it here: Philippine The 2 most infamous things to come out of that conflict was the .45 Colt 1911 pistol and the tactic of waterboarding as a somewhat effective method of torture.
Under the law, a business CANNOT say "No". They are forced under the law to give the discount to those presenting a valid senior card. Many businesses here operate on less than 20% margin, unlike the US, Oz, etc. where most everywhere is 40% markup or more. This means that the business must mark up the cost to everyone else in order to cover this extra burden to them. So, the poor Filipino/a down the street trying to raise his/her 5 kids will be paying more for his/her bag of rice, medicines, and travel, because YOU (and others who don't need it) chose to take the discount. Seems pretty cheap to me too. Larry
