In the event of an emergency I hope they would understand - but, I agree, if they don't then you have to find your own way around. I agree with you, I would not encourage anyone to circumvent their rules and I feel if ex-pats do this in a country where we are guests and are not forced to be here then we do not deserve to stay.
Although not enforced at this time, the plan is to have the guards at all of the stores downtown check for a proper pass. When this is enforced, getting around the checkpoint will be a moot issue. In an emergency you can get through a checkpoint and receive a pass from them in exchange for your drivers license that will allow you to get into an establishment in town.
Either driver’s license or Original Receipt for your vehicle. Two things that can take a long time to obtain at the best of times and right now impossible to replace. I’d think very hard before handing those over to strangers. Why is this not simply ‘some official ID’?
