Good thing my new food place opening next month is in Bacong. I have no plans to have rice even on the menu at opening!

There was no requirement to have rice. Only that if you do serve rice, you offer a half size portion along with your full size portions.

I guess you must be aiming at the "expat without wives" market as all the wives will talk their husbands out of going if there is no available rice.

Just at the *soft* opening if will. Small little more so snack food place focused more on things like shakes, halo2x, burgers, and fajita's. I have plans to add fairly quickly some rice meals but haven't sorted that out quite yet so probably be a couple weeks in.

But on a sidenote a proper *healthy* serving of rice is about 1/2 a cup of cooked rice and better if brown rice. Try getting any Filipino to believe that thou!

Let us know when you open and I bet at least some of us would come and check out your offerings etc. especially if near where we live. I am in Bagacay.

Bacong needs a good snack food/restaurant. There is only a couple of options: La Fiesta (in San Miguel Barangay great food, but extremely slow, I suggest ordering dinner at noon), Bambulo (great environment, great Sushi all you can eat Buffet on Friday nights) and Takkries French snack shop on Highway... (Good food, small portions at small price... best homemade Ice Cream you will find in Bacong.) Keep us informed as to your location and good luck. Soft opening is a great way to start, but let people know you are experimenting and would like any suggests they have for improvements... make you customers part of your business family. They will stick around you family home.... lol

There have been complaints from on high in PH about unlimited rice offerings maybe leading to waste of rice in a country that's importing it

My experience with soft openings here in PH usually means you'll get dismal service and product availability-which doesn't give me the urge to return

That's why it's called a soft opening. Usually no advertisement of same. Just trying to work out any kinks before the grand opening usually with friends and family in attendance to give constructive feedback and possible improvements etc... If I may suggest, in the future try to time your visit of a new establishment after the grand opening to really experience what the restaurant or venue has to offer. Just offering an opinion :whistling:
