    Latency test tony, the lower your number here the less packets you lose when surfing. Ours is around 50

    Please find below report;

    1.) 2005-2007: I had SMART BROADBAND 1 mbps.(1,000 pesos/month) with antenna installed in a coco tree, works fine.. but, BIPOLAR sometimes depending on the weather forecast.:dnr:
    2.) 2007-2010: I had GLOBE BROAD(1,500 pesos/month) 1mbps, upgraded to 1.5 then went to 2 mbps. It was the worst NIGHTMARE, the worst case scenario-i almost put myself into a rehab!! I filed 2 pages complaints; spend my time, money and end up pointless.
    3.)2011-until NOW: I finally married to PLDT( no other choice)! i am most of the time in HOLIDAY MODE...it is far away better than what the S and G can offer. I also had a trouble in first year with PLDT i guess we were getting to know each other and having cultural differences! But after my constant SOPRANO voice in their office they were tired of me and I got JUSTICE O--O...
    I have 5 landlines with PLDT with the following fees;
    3mbps-2,098.9/month with 2 sim mobile phones(most of the time i get 2.5 to 3.5mbps)
    5mbps-2,602.25/month
    8mbps-3,607.25/month(most of the time i get 6mbps to 8.5mbps sometimes depending the mood of the network/operator maybe!!)O-xI
    Below link was my speed test a while ago;

    Thought I would give all you moaners some food for thought: Just did an Ookla test with the following earth-shattering results:
    PING: 446
    D/L: 0.16
    U/L: 0,03
    No, there are no typos in the above figures......
    Have a nice evening (Ohh and btw: I do not pay for this wonderful service - it comes with the rent. PLDT does not have a landline in the vicinity and Globe nor Smart do not cover this part of the world...)

    Few things on ping.

    Ping is the speed of sending and recieving data between computers and over the internet. However here in the Philippines you can do a ping test to your providers server and you'll usually score extremely low. However this is completely inaccurate as your provider is NOT the internet, it is a gateway to the internet. Its like pinging the time it takes for my computer to talk to my router or my other computer and then claiming that's my internet speed. But in reality that's the speed of my LAN, here its basically a WAN or Wide Area Network. This whole concept also goes for checking your bandwidth as we all know our LAN speed is far greater then our internet speed. However their modems are what cap our speed on their WAN.

    To test your real internet ping you MUST ping outside of the Philippines same to check your real internet speed. The reason is the Philippines is NOT part of the internet really but simply a gateway to what comprises the internet. The Philippines purchases backbone bandwidth on international lines from internet backbone providers. These are either satellite or usually cables through the ocean to other major countries. The Philippines has numerous lines, however the providers such as Globe, PLDT, and others all lease bandwidth from the cable owners/operators and are capped to that bandwidth being the maximum they can deliver unless they buy more bandwidth.

    Now what the providers do for instance is Provider A will purchase say 1,000Mbps bandwidth as an example. This mean's they could sell 1,000 1Mmbps connections and be stable. However what they do is they assume people won't use it at the same time and thus sell the same 1Mbps connection to 100 different people. This is overselling their service massively. Now as you see at 3-4am everything is very fast and smooth, no issues then right? But during the day when others are using the same piece your using things get slower. During prime-time most are using their connection and is why it moves to a crawl. The more your provider oversells the slower your internet speed will be.

    However whenever tech's come out, as the companies know what the real issue is, the techs are trained to ONLY do speed and ping tests on the Philippine server which generally shows everything is great from the test. But still at the point of the test you haven't passed through the backbone lines to the real internet so what they are showing you is completely fraudulent. They however complain that they can't control the lines outside of the Philippines while the issue is they are really just to cheap to purchase enough bandwidth for their customers to get what they are paying for.

    Further what the major providers do to discount those who know the very basics is they host caches copies of popular websites on their service, websites like facebook, yahoo, google, speedtest, and a couple of others. This allows during a basic cmd prompt test them to reroute traffic to their local server for a cached ping/bandwidth test that isn't still the real website, but can speed up access very slightly.

    Of course no courts give a d*mn about enforcing consumer protections for customers and these companies are often major players in local and federal politics so they have the politicians in their pockets.

    Hopefully my explanation helped a few and taught people how to avoid being duped. Next time they open up speedtest.net to test make them test signapore, Kota Lumpur, or better yet anyplace in the US. You'll find average *decent* ping in the Philippines is usually 200-280ms which is fairly rough for internet gaming. Those that are real bad reach near 400+. At roughly 400ms you'll be finding a lot of websites timeout before they open in IE or firefox among other browsers.

    EDIT 2: Since the previous poster explained the Internet, I redid my speed test to Sydney, Australia instead of Manila. Test performed at 8:30 am. There seems to be a huge difference in the ping but download speeds are actually better than what I got from Manila.

    Well usually when I come here to Negros , I have my iphone for business things on international roam, and just a Samsung flip for Philippine local calls while here ,recently I had a guy who had problems getting out of bed early so I relieved him of having that problem , which freed up one of my iphones , so I put a Philippine sim in that phone , hooked it to my laptop , and now have finally got reasonable internet at my house here , the globe tattoo huawie could not even load a page , the iphone as a router with a smart sim is so far a cure to my internet ailments here in Tugas, Tanjay, Yeahy:D

    I live in Valencia and have connection with SMART and ping usually 30-50 miliseconds and download 1.6 or so with upload .3 mgb. I paid for 2 mgb upload... its fine for what I need and sometimes good enough for streaming.
