Hello all. My husband and I are retired in the Republic of Panama. We are currently exploring future options and adventures. Dumaguete seems to be a place that we keep coming back to, when looking at places in the Philippines. I am really enjoying watching the posts on the growth and living in Dumaguete. Thank you all for the great info. Once our house sells here, we will be heading your way, so I hope to see you soon.

It's a race to see who sells their home first. I'm hoping we both sell quickly, but the market in ourarea isn't that great. Welcome tothe forum, and hope our path will cross in Dumaguete.

Got a holiday next week and plan to decorate the house in preparation to sell but instead my husband booked a week's holiday to Prague, Czech Republic. So maybe, he is not in a hurry to put the house in the market.

Hi Kianna welcome to the forum...If you don't mind, why are you considering moving from Panama? Just for a change in location, or other issues? Just curious. I'm not very familiar with Panama, but from what I've seen it's beautiful. I knew some military friends stationed there, and just loved it.

    Thanks

We are mainly looking to move due to the boom that has hit Panama. The costs of living have risen quite a bit in the last 2.5 years that we have been here.
We built our home for $38/sq ft., currently it is $50-75/sq. ft.
We had a housekeeper at first, $120/month (plus the government mandates SS pay, bonus pay, 1 month paid vacation etc.) Now, you can't even find a housekeeper for less than $200/month plus all the mandates. This is a live-in, so room and board, salary and government pay gets you up to around $350/month.
    Internet we have 1mb and pay $120/month, 128k $40, 256k $60.
We were paying $150/month in electricity. We are still working on this issue, due to a faulty meter, so I don't have a correct amount at this time. Keep in mind we have no heat or a/c even installed in the house, and we get 25% off for pensionado visa.

We are not traditionally retired folks, I am 39 and my husband is 43. We draw $1500/month and can't currently raise this amount if we plan to still be retired in our 60's lol. Panama is a beautiful country and still cheap comparatively speaking. It is just rising too quickly for our long term plan.

Seems similar to qatar then, when cost of living has sky rocketed high that it puts off many people to move and work there ,like for rental cost has leap several folds and so as food and mostly everything .An expensive place to live, many are moving out.
