I personally enjoy e.g. siquijor with its limited cell phone coverage and been to that very same beach on Panglao in December as well. No need to lecture on social media and its problems as well, I'm old enough to avoid wasting my time there.

Once you not only see the Philippines as your vacation spot / personal playground but as a country that tries to keep up with its neighbours economically then 4g coverage and overseas connection speeds are an interesting thing to compare.

The will be neighbors, waterpark and hotel on the east side of Bohol Beach Club. There is middle class resorts there today, the plan is to buy all these resorts and built one new hotel/resort. Momo Beach on North side of Panglao, 10-15 min from Alona, then you are away from the crowd

Interesting thread. Seems overall, expats like Dumaguete saying the good outweigh the bad. I like the city, very livable.

I guess that is some research someone should do prior to renting or buying on the beach. It isn't a shortcoming of the Telecom (since very few people/customers live at the very edge of a town), it is a shortcoming of the person who "needs" a good signal but didn't bother to check if it was available before moving.

What about the people who don't? How do you regulate them? I think there in lies the challenge, your idea of good and someone else's idea may also vary significantly, someone you call an *sshole probably has friends that think he is cool. Who gets to decide where that line is? I think some kind of structure is needed to avoid chaos. There are plenty of good, well intentioned people that have made serious mistakes even with lines. I'm not here to say where those lines should be, just that I think we need them. The question becomes how much risk or how many lives is freedom worth. Drinking and driving, along with speeding are good examples.

If you decide to make the move you'll love the exquisite cuisine and blazing fast internet in the Philippines.

I really, really hope you mean this ironically.

    I don't know.
You are not taking into account the fact that the Philippines are an island economy.

Economically speaking, all these islands are a hindrance to progress. The numerous islands do not enjoy the economy of scale of one homogenous economy. Transportation is much more expensive than a country with one large land mass. Goods have to be loaded and unloaded multiple times to get to their destination. Truck, boat, back to truck. The electric grid cannot span islands. Multiple islands also means multiple languages and subcultures. Simply based on their geography, the Thais have a large advantage over the Philippines.

This has nothing to do with who is more industrious and forward-thinking or smarter.

Was it though? There has never been a foreigner murdered or kidnapped there before? Or is it that the information just not easily found? The Philippines certainly doesn't keep a list of foreigners/tourists killed in the Philippines, or if they do they certainly aren't sharing it/making it available online. The internet was barely a thing 10 years ago in the Philippines and even today most "news" is posted to social media (which isn't cached/indexed all that well). Finding records of foreigners being killed more than even 5 years ago can be rather difficult unless you know exactly what you are looking for and where to look.

I have yet to find a beach (or any place in the Philippines) where I get a 4g connection with speeds of 30MBps and up on the beach as I experienced in Thailand couple years ago on a regular basis. Even on islands smaller than siquijor.

Some areas in Mindanao are dangerous, though.
