Are they really closing though? I just got an email from Travel Advisor about deals in Boracay.

These are the only handful of hotels with rooms available after 26APR2018. Are they ignoring the closure, planning on screwing their guests, haven't updated their profile on that site or have they paid some bribes?

Pretty optimistic of Dumaguete/Negros to think that they would be the next in line after Boracay. I suspect most tourists are just going to cancel their trip all together.

Those that don't get the notification about their hotel cancellation are going to be furious when they land in Caticlan. Some likely have all-inclusive packages and won't have enough cash to go anywhere else and will have to stay at the resorts on the main island near Caticlan (I've stayed at some of those and I much prefer those small - and much more reasonably priced - locally owned resorts to the commercialized crap-hole Boracay is. Same white sand, same water, same warm weather.....no crowd. This would be my recommendation to any tourist that had Duterte stick the shaft up the @ss of their vacation.)

Those that do have enough money are probably not going to be looking for a crowded and dirty provincial town with no beaches or nightlife. They are going to go to Palawan, Panglao, Mactan, Puerto Princesa and other areas with large resorts and nice(r) beaches. Your average Boracay tourists are not people that like to slum it up in dirty little cities....and most have absolutely no interest in doing anything that would have them interacting much at all with the local culture.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe all the people that had planned on visiting an internationally known white-sand beach with world class resorts will flock to Dumaguete to stay in sub-par hotels (which will fill up fast, leaving the rest to check-in to even more sub-par "pension houses") so they can sit on the boulevard and watch the trash float by while sucking on the soot from trike and Ceres exhausts. I guess anything can happen.

All in one tourists are most time booking over a travel office or tour operator. These are responsible if a tourist can not get into their booked arrangement and they have to look a similar replacement. The sh!t hitting the fan hits almost individual travellers which booked flights and hotels separately.

Dumaguete will probably get an increase of passing by travelers going south (Bacong, Dauin, Zamboamguita, Basay, Bayawan), north (Bais, Manjuyod) or west (Valencia) of Dumaguete.

Boracay rehab magnifies land ownership issue
Boracay rehab magnifies land ownership issue

Illegal structures are one thing. Untitled land the government won't let be titled is another. Hate to see these families that have lived on lands and paid taxes for decades lose their lands.

Reading through the article at your link reminds me of the stories of the Arizona land rush where loads of natives that lived on their land for generations got pushed aside for "progress". It happens all over.
