To Smoke or Not to Smoke!

Where does it stop? Why can't people just enjoy where they live and not try to impose their cultural values from their countries? I came to the Philippines because of their lack of rules like no smoking. Foreigners come here and try to change everything!

When I retired I thought about living in a place called Lake Chapala, Mexico. But the more I researched it the more I found it not to my liking. Expats who moved changed the area. There are all kinds of restaurants now that cater the "American Lifestyle." Prices are sky high!

I enjoyed the freedom here in the Philippines but that is slowly changing.

    Sad.

Sounds like it is time for you to move on or hang out at different restaurants. This no smoking law is not the results of a few expats wishes as we cannot vote. You better try and take your issue up with the locals, try the mayor for starts, I can tell you where he eats lunch almost every day if you don't already know.
I quit smoking in 1993 after sucking down 2-3 packs a day of unfiltered for 35 years. Was it hard to do ? Yes it was hard to quit. Was it worth it ? Yes without a doubt it was well worth it. Your body can recover from the damage if it isn't too far gone. I am all for freedom, but I also have my right to not breathe in your second hand smoke. Smoke at home all you want, or out in the ocean, or the jungle. But we non-smokers ( the vast majority) have our rights also. I have buried many friends as a result of smoking one thing or another, luckily I won't be at your funeral. That is your choice to smoke, but our choice to breathe.
Just remember "smokers are a dying breed". Time will take care of those that won't quit.
By the way, were you paid by the tobacco companies to do your post ?
    Smile.

I don't find it odd anymore, that the majority of anti smokers, are in fact, reformed Smokers. Seldom do I hear people, that have never smoked, making such a fuss. Non Smokers could do the same as suggested and move on. there was, freedom of choice for both, now there is no freedom of Choice. Ah! Democracy at it's best.

I gave up Smoking in April. If someone lights up around me I just move away, No need for arguments, and this will lead to arguments. IMHO

I admire everybody who quits smoking. certainly not an easy task.
Sadly many of them are turning into a kind of senile narrow minded weird individual, it might be even the better choice to continue smoking and die a bit earlier to avoid turning out like them...

I hope you get your wish. I am all for freedom of choice. Don't impose on my freedom and I won't impose on yours. My asawa tells me restaurants have to make a separate room for smokers if they want smokers. Have you talked to the restaurant owners ? If they want smokers all they have to do is separate them, it has been done sucessfully in other places.
Actually some good friends of mine, a group of 6 own the best restaurant in one town in the U.S.. Most of the owners are smokers, but they have 1/3 the place for smokers and 2/3 for non-smokers. Their business has never been better.
