thinking of moving to live permanetly, please lets be honest and let me know is it safe to walk the streets coming from n ireland im well aware of terorism have fallen in love with a beautiful lady and would not like anything to happen to us

Hi Ruanard, Jack P. here, well my Friend, To answer you quite simply, Over there, we are just unidentifiable until we speak, Here! we stick out like a sore thumb. I have been here many years and have never felt any threat at all. As I have said in posts before, be aware, try and NOT to be in the Wrong place at the wrong time, Walking the streets too late and certainly not alone, I think you will find that every one from the UK/N.Ireland understands your concern but as long as we respect the fact we are Guests here then you will be as safe as you can be.

To put it in perspective for you Ruanard with terrorism you have to worry that someone is going to make a political statement while you are in a particular place or event. In the PI you basically have to be on guard that someone is not going to make you a meal ticket. Whether you see it or not there is abject poverity all around you and while that does not make every one a killer or holduper there are the few that choose to go down that path. The majority of Filipinos are generally loving christian people but like everyone else on this planet there are occasionally bad ones.

If your future GF or wife is like mine she will try to always send you out with an escort and until you learn your surroundings well that is something you maybe should be thankful for. My intent is not to scare you but to ensure you do not bring those rose colored glasses because they make you look so awful.

Getting back to the original topic. Chances of being a victim of terrorism are extremely low.....unless you live in the wrong part of Mindanao. But, the Philippines is probably the worst place in Asia for petty crime. And I might be wrong, but the murder rate of foreigners in the last couple years has climbed dramatically from what I can gather....mostly, but certainly not always, on Luzon...I won't comment on Dumaguete - it still has some, declining, rural charm, but in many areas foreigners and Filipinos who can afford it live in 'secure' subdivisions for a reason. And even that doesn't guarantee their lives or possessions. Not likely to get any better until the escalating drug situation is solved, poverty reversed, and the police become competent.....which means never...

 

can your wife tell my Rechel how unsafe it is that I go out alone ? I just texted some reliable people who are happy to escort me, keep me safe and volunteer to show me a lot of the beautiful and interesting places and activities ...

 

Are you sure about that Rhoody, pick up the wrong escort and it wont be safe at home either!
