Will be there next week and doing a Bais trip on Saturday, Nov. 2. Already booked the expensive boat but was told by a couple of friends living there that trips to Bais have been cancelled in the past week because of big waves and rough seas PLUS no more dolphin sightings. I wouldn't want to spend P2500+ just to see the sand bar. Need your advise if I should cancel our boat reservations.

    Thanks.

The sandbar is only a little addition to main activity 'dolphin watching'.If dolphin watching isn't on the menu ,it's not worth to spend your P2500 just for the sandbar alone, there's no even guarantee you see the sandbar if the tide is high when you're there, unless u knew the tides before the booking.

port80, it is the ocean, and the time of the year when it gets rough. No boat-operator will cancel a trip if it is safe to go out. Today it was plat in the morning, but getting rough at the moment.
As you may have seen in other threads, it is the end of the Dolphin season.
Sorry for your planned trip, but try to cancel it, that you sefe the money. You can book it on a day to day decision and give it a try when you are here...

    cheers

Thanks guys. I guess it's wiser to just cancel it and try to book if the weather's better when we're there already. I'll just prepare an alternative itinerary. Thanks.

By the way, this is slightly off-topic but would you recommend a day trip to Siquijor as an alternative activity?

I'd suggest Apo Island if you haven't been there. It might be the most popular trip for people coming to DGTE. I think it's unanimously agreed on this board as being the number 1 must see in the area. Do you do any snorkling or swimming ? Where are you from ? Where are you now ? How long are you here for ?

I found Siquijor to be boring myself. Others may have had a different experience. The tourism scene seems to be somewhat monopolized by the Coco Grove Beach Resort which is nice enough if you are in to that sort of thing. I've met everything from deranged sexual predators to zealous missionaries and everything in between arriving in DGTE. It's pretty hard to recommend activities to anyone without knowing what they are into. I take it from your interest in Dolphin watching that you are a nature lover. In that case, I think you should get yourself a mask and snorkle, if you don't have one, and head to Apo.

Hi Chuck, yes, we plan to do some snorkeling in Apo Island too. We're staying 2n-3d in Duma and were initially planning to do Apo on Day 1, Bais on Day 2 and City tour or Twin Lakes on Day 3. But since I'm scrapping Bais from the plan, I need a full-day activity for Day 2.

My fiance is from Puerto Princesa, Palawan and I am from Manila. Yes, you are correct, we're both more interested in the nature-based activities  He has also lived and worked in Dumaguete for 2 years but ironically, was not able to visit Apo Island.

He wants to move up the Twin Lakes tour to Day 2 but apart from the travel which takes about 3 hours (roundtrip), I'm not interested in spending more than an hour or two there.

We spent few nights in Siquijor but this was about 15 yrs ago, long time. We hired a motorbike to get around the island following the coastline and across the mountains ,to visit the witch craft village ,oh well we got bit of minor accident which bit burn a lil patch of my leg from the motor exhaust, can still see the scar imprint on my leg a memory of it ,always reminds me of Siquijor.Apart from that we had a good sight seeing in the mountains .We love beaches but can't waste the time being beach bums in a resort,it gets so boring ,always love exploring, visiting empty beaches, towns and villages and having the motorbike did work well for us.That time there were pristine empty beaches in siquijor ,we did walks following empty coastlines ... killing the time slowly it was relaxing , but don't know now, perhaps more development but sure there are areas good for snorkeling.Have to mention the known Salagdu-ong beach had only little tinkle of cement walls when we were there , empty and still beautiful, but now it's covered with more cement walls and ugly concrete steps to the beach when coastal erosion seem not the problem , there's a house or a shop/canteen right nr the beach too ,the site seems loosing it's natural appeal , in my opinion from photos i saw it's getting uglier as it ages. I hope the 'concrete walls' didn't invade other nice beaches .But the overall visit was good ,we enjoyed it.
