    Hello all

I'm a tourist from Canada in Dumaguete this week with my husband. We just arrived today on a Sunday. We saw Persian Palate was near by and we ate there in Cebu so wanted to go here. It was closed though.

Can you tell me if it's just closed on Sundays or if it is closed permanently?

We are vegan (eat no meat, fish, eggs, milk) and looking for places to eat in town. We went to Casablanca instead and got some salad and pasta in tomato sauce, but wondering if there is anything else we can eat that has no meat or dairy products (or can be removed when ordering)

Any help would be appreciated. We just came from Siquijor, Coco Grove and the food was terrible there and we are sick sick sick of plain rice and "chop suey" which is not really real chop suey at all.

So sorry to hear about your negative experience. Anyway, yes, I think Persian Palate is still in business. It is close though at certain times. There isn't any restaurants for vegans in this place, but there are restos that also sell all-veggie foods along with other foods.

When you ask nicely most restaurants can adjust some menu to vegetarian i guess.
Roberto's (known as Rosante) on Perdices street has some "vegetable only" dishes

I am just wondering what places have food that can still be called a meal when you take the meat out of it, or that can be made without milk or cream.

We tried vegetable pancit once, but now looking online I see that it uses chicken broth to flavor it, and the resort never told us this and they had vegetarian pancit on the menu. They also offered stir fried vegetables in oyster sauce or vegetable curry in red shrimp paste sauce. So obviously this is not vegetarian let alone vegan!

Ok we are wondering what to do tonight. Persian Palate is closed tonight. We went to Casablanca already, small section on their menu, not really anything that does not have cheese on it. Has anyone had them make something not on the menu? Are they open to that and capable?

I am even contemplating asking a pizza joint to make a vegetable pizza with no cheese lol. I have been reading the forums and see that many Italian and Mexican places go under or are sold and changed and everything seems very tumultuous in Dumaguete so that's why I thought I'd ask.

We try not to be too picky as we know it's a challenge traveling, but sometimes having food that is a little above edible is desireable if you can get it! We usually try to get kitchens so we can make our own food and then we can make lots of stuff.

We love the Philippines, but I cannot say we have enjoyed the (lack of) veggie dishes, service or care we have received at restaurants and resorts!

    Salad?

 The vegan friend we have is a dab hand at asking for a Good old fashioned SALAD! Just tell the waiting staff , exactly, what you want on it.

Luckily our hotel is right in downtown here. I can't believe everything is so close, it's only like a block away!

We checked out Justz Cafe, someone online said they had vegetarian adobo (which we have never tried or heard of) They were out of it, but we got some spaghetti with mushrooms and tomatoes and a delicious plate of grilled vegetables, roasted potatoes and salad. They had the most vegetarian food I have seen on a menu in the Philippines so far, not a lot but more than 3 dishes is exciting to see! And the prices are dirt cheap compared to what we were paying on Siquijor.

So now you guys know if people ask you can recommend Justz and Casablanca.

Does anyone know which pizza place has a wood oven or makes good thin crust pizza?
