since a few days the "new" official DOT slogan is out, which basically goes about things are more fun in the Philippines. That all resulted from some DOT - guys/girl who needed to change the "old" WOW-Philippines for whatever reason. ( I really liked WOW-Philippines) So they decided to waste a couple of Millions in a campaign 1.5 years ago just to make a slogan which sounds for non-native speaker, meaning foreign tourists (the main target group) like a title of a dating site: Pilipinas - kay ganda (so beautiful) , but that's not all, they also used a Logo which is pretty close to the Polish department of tourism. However, that campaign and the millions disappeared pretty fast. Now the "new" slogan is out: It's more fun in the Philippines Sounds great, doesn't it ? Well the same thought had the Swiss National Tourist Office already 60 years ago: ...
Hey, just got a great idea.....why don't we come out with a new logo? We would save the Filipino Department of Tourism a few bobs and create something appealing to tourists....(keep it clean). Just a thought.
This "fun thing"already exist for a few months now and if this is supposed to attract foreigners they have to use foreign media as other ASEAN country's are doing. Instead you can find this colourfull logo in NAIA and some other Philippino airports. It is indeed "FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES""
I had another look at the advertisement campaign by the Department of Tourism and start to getting to like it.... It is not only one image with the slogan "More fun in the Philippines" but a series of images titled Stargazing...Commuting...Yoda...Meditating....Seeing stars...etc.etc...all ending with the More fun in the Philippines slogan and a relevant picture. Not so bad after all. Only ambiguous slogan would be the....Getting upstairs. More fun in the Philippines. given that in most countries, that is where the bedrooms are.....a coincidence or just a saucy hint. Can't say I disagree though!!
"Philippines 2000" was the best slogan! I had a shirt that had that on it as I stepped off that 747...
I saw a news report on CNN about this advertising campaign. Since the government didn't have a fortune to spend on advertising (obviously), they turned to social networking and apparently, it really caught on. Filling in the blank, " ________, More Fun in the Philippines" has had tons of hits and has gone worldwide without costing an additional peso. Like the example above, Getting Upstairs, more Fun in the Philippines, many funny examples have shown up on facebook and Twitter. Of course, they have been followed by the less attractive ones, like Corruption, Terrorism, Guns, etc ... More Fun in the Philippines. Just google "more fun in the Philippines" and check the images or use this url, more fun in the philippines - Google Search . My favorite is "Chasing Tail, More Fun in the Philippines" with a picture of a diver following a whale shark.
