Well; when the other "one of those guys" end up having problems, their fortunate 'other' takes the ring to L'Huillier to pawn it. You may get a good deal there AND you will know its pawn value for future reference![]()

I have purchased a enough diamond rings in what I would say were disappointing investments..
There were all nice stuff from good jewelers I knew personally. However at this point in time, I would not put a nice large flashy diamond on a Filipina... for her own safety. If she needs a large flashy ring, then buy her one then buy a matching fake to wear. If ever confronted by robbers she can hand it over without remorse, knowing the good stuff is safe at home. I hope she will feel the same about you: "the good stuff is safe at home."

I am pleased to read you have found your "gift of love" - both the ring and the lady!
I wish the both of you much good health, forever happiness.
May you both acquire a treasure trove of lasting memories.

I was not in the market for an investment, nor was I asked or expected to buy anything. Marketing hype or not I wanted to do a little something nice for her. As I said in an earlier post, I was looking for something nice by Duma standards (actually nice by way up the mountain past Valencia standards) and not American standards.
I thank everyone for their suggestions and in checking them all out I also got a feel for asking prices. I ended up finding an engagement/wedding ring matched set at Oro China which I paid 50% of asking price. Making the the purchase affordable and still nice enough to meet my requirements.-

I would only really strongly suggest NOT going to ML Lhuillers (or whatever its called in Robinsons) or Oro China. From what I looked at before they both are vastly overpriced but then almost always claiming a discount... ML place usually seems to say 20% off or so and Oro China usually saying 40-50% off.... But with those *sale* prices figured in they were still vastly overpriced from what I could figure with a bit of research.
It may sound rough but I would almost suggest looking in Cebu IF your looking for something a bit nicer but not looking insane.
However one place here in Dumaguete I did look at at before seemed alright compared to the others. I don't recall the name but its a bigger jewelers place not far from Skycable office. However you could always go looking around at pawn places I suppose as well as plenty of dumb foreigners in the past threw a bunch of fancy nice jewelry at girls who ended up pawning them due to relationships going sour one way or another.-
