I took the mabinay route. There was a bit of construction starting about 15-20km prior to mabinay. Maybe a total of 500 meters prior to mabinay. After mabinay the roads are great to kabankalan, mostly smooth blacktop. After kabankalan it is a bit sketchy. About a 40km detour after the city that starts with an "h" (looks like Himalaya or something of the sort). After the detour there is plenty of construction as well. Trucks that are too big are not taking the suggested detour, causing the idiots to try to fit two dump trucks on a one lane road, sat there for 15 minutes for one to decide to back up. Closer to Bacolod there is a couple bridge constructions going on slowing traffic. Seems the tides have turned, used to be the Negros Oriental side was slow going, now the Occidental side is miserable.......especially in a multicab.
Yeah that's it. Some sh*t city not worth even remembering in my opinion. More trike drivers per capita than dumaguete in that place. But better than the bicycle trike city on the way to cebu. THAT place drives me nuts (almost as much as carcar). If I remember the cities name it is either a really good thing or a REALLY bad thing.
This is good to know, thanks. When I last was looking around for a shipper of some important documents, I found it almost impossible to get a straight answer from FedEx by email and finally they told me point blank that they assume NO RESPONSIBILITY on whatever fees customs charges even if they are excessive. That, plus the 5,000 approx they wanted to ship a simple letter told me there is NO reason to use FedEx unless you need something quickly (even that is not guaranteed with them) and are willing to be held up without a gun to get it. It seems that a low cost, reasonably quick method to ship to the P.I. is still elusive in many cases. My guess is that it is the government behind all the problems, either bad/corrupt customs or bad/corrupt Phil P.O.
Only: Check out the Johnny Air Web Page. They have many different services. My parents have constantly tried to ship me packages and letters. One package went lost in the mail for over 1 year, finally sent back to my parents. I received a birthday card 3 months late. Another package just disappeared, been over a year with that as well, maybe it will eventually show up somewhere. Several others have went missing as well. They used USPS for all their packages and letters sent. They wanted to send some Christmas presents but I told them not to even take the risk. The Philippines post office is bad about stealing, but I suspect even worse around Christmas.
And I haven't heard anyone post about any company that can deliver within 7-10 days......unless you live in Manila. Btw, someone is trying to work out bringing an office to Dumaguete. I think it would work out well for them.
