 I was just sat at my desk thinking about the post that Firefly recently posted, " TRUST" an honest and down to earth gut feeling post, Firefly I will post when I have done this as I am of the opinion that it deserves some applause and recognition.

It was then that I noticed as I was looking through another post, something on PatO's profile header, Yeeeeeeeeah My friend, you have made it to 2 green squares, WELL DONE! Despite all the Crap thrown at him, he has proved to be a valued member of DI and has risen to the stage as Rhoody put it about Firefly, his reputation speaks for it's self.
Over the last 6/7 days we have seen a lot of Bull S...t, unnecessary innuendos and total arrogance from certain members and it seemed everyone was suffering from some sort of mega hangover. A lot of nastiness crept in on 2/3 threads that just showed Ignorance, arrogance and downright insolence. Pat had his say, he was shot at, Fired back and scored some hits. He was accused of judging (something I do not agree he does at all) his opinions are only his opinions, if some people can't see further that their nose, WELL! that's just ignorance. Now, he has been judged by his peers here on DI and His reputation speaks for it's self. ( Sorry Rhoody, your words but my Stage just at this moment.:o
In 9 months, he has achieved what I think others may have taken a lot longer to acheive, It proves that the reputation icon works so well done Dane & Rhoody + who ever else was involved.

I can not see any other post on this achievement, So I am pleased to be the first to congratulate him, Well Done Pat!

( If I am not the first, then I apologize but still congratulate him :o)

As I told Pat in a PM, he'd make a great Texan.
But having said that, I started thinking, so would a lot of you guys here, I think is is our overall attitude about life.

Jack P,you are spot-on. I don't post a lot but apreciate reading many of your posts as I do from many other members. Other than the rep I found that the ignore-function of DI is very helpful, so I don't see the drunk posts of a certain Ron (not ronv8917 !!) or that arrogant Kojak. I am thankful about real information like Shadow with all his Visa Input, PatO with his house-costs,ronv8917 who let us take part through his journey of life in the Philippines, all that pictures of OnMyWay, Rhoody and others and many interesting members and their stories. Also my honest Thank You to all contributers and the guys (and girls?) who started this website.

The one thing most ex-pats have in common is their ability and habit of thinking outside of the box. After all, they took the initiative to leave their homeland and intentionally become a minority. Unlike when someone moves to America and can become an American, we will always be foreigners here whether we like it or not. That is a hard pill to swallow sometimes and it takes fortitude to stick it out.

When you get a bunch of people together that have this common trait but different opinions, attitudes will show and tempers will flare causing heated threads and interesting reading. People will be offended along the way.

While the reputation indicator is a novelty, it is not a true measure of of a member's worth as it is really only a popularity contest of sorts. Friends vote for friends. Maybe my opinion on this will change if you all "bump me up" hehehe

Don't get me wrong, I am not discounting PatO's contributions here, I am just saying that people should not let the reputation make someone an authority or guru. I enjoy reading what he has to say whether I agree with him or not.

JM, I can assure you that the rep function here is configured with many filters that the "friends vote for friends" is not working. It has multiple different parameters and they are very carefully set. When we installed it, we were totally surprised about the options, many aspects I would never ever think of in 100 years. Seeing all stats, points and comments we are totally convinced that it works very good.

Gass, I believe that different characters give the "salt to the soup", many people have a multiple personality and go on Forums totally different than they are in real life or also speak up only on boards as nobody cares what they say in real life. Using the ignore function is one way to deal with it. Laughing about it is the other. Just don't get high-blood. I believe I am a perfect example. I couldn't care less what the unlimited coffee crowd of Mc Donalds or some other specific groups say about me without ever speaking a word to me. I care about my girl and the 2 kids, when I am done with that i might think about a few people I really like to talk to in Dumaguete and thankfully those few don't hang out at famous meeting points for people with too much time but nothing to do

You will find on each Forum in the world people coming in knowing everything and disappearing after a while when they recognize nobody gives a bloody d*mn... After that they will run around and tell everybody how terrible this and that is and who are the "bad boys".

    drama drama

    Jackpeterson, things aren’t as dramatic as you’ve stated….please don’t be such a drama queen……

But then why am I not surprised that with all the anger and insecurities now rampant within the small circle of DI buddies that a thread such as this is needed to reassure a distressed comrade in need of emotional support. And yes, I get it…..If you don’t stand up and back up your boy then who will?

Nevertheless, let’s get to the facts…..

For the past week, excluding this one I’ve made a total of 2 (two) posts. One to point out the obvious rude and condescending reply from Pat O on back2eden’s “Marrying a Filipina outside of the Phil” (http://www.dumagueteinfo.com/board/general-chat/marrying-filipina-outside-phil-7740.html) and a second post defending myself on a flaming attack thread started by PatO who was obviously quite emotional that someone had come out to set him straight. Your so call DI “Boy Scout” PatO was actually so pissed that he had to send a private message threatening to “kick my @ss”----I will forward his message upon request to any DI member. His seemingly well-rehearsed threatening message made me assume that it isn’t his first. Am I intimidated? Take a wild guess.

This made me think about a saying about dogs…… which is “a barking dog don’t bite”, and what I’m hearing (reading) on DI forum as of late are just a lot of barking from some of the DI good ole’ boys.

    Cherrios!

Forums have cliques, and these cliques often have a dogpile mentality.

I am sure that the talented elves that created Vbulletin have done their best to try to make it so people cannot "game" the system, but take it from someone who had a contract to comment spam CNET.com with 1500 user accounts and manipulate the system through random reviews, salting the reviews of certain products, pushing the reps of some products up and pushing some down.. it can be done

it definitely can be done, I use my indian friends for a lot of that stuff , we also get several attacks here. Once one of my own blogs was "spammed" by one of my contractors hehe. We delete plenty new members here frequently. Human control is the keyfactor and on a board like DI it is not that hard. We gonna meet up one day and I can tell you some of the filters, there is some real great stuff we use some is even very funny, at least for those who are NOT effected bey it.
