    This is just too much!

    MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa City is now requiring people who buy condoms to present a doctor’s prescription.

    In a barangay ordinance last January 3, village officials said condoms and other contraceptives cause abortions.

    The ordinance also bars teachers, reproductive health advocates, and social workers from holding sex education activities in the barangay without prior consultation with parents of students.

    Local officials also banned advertisement of all forms of contraceptives in the village.

    Those who approved the ordinance were barangay chairman Alfred Xerez-Burgos, Jr.; kagawads Joanna Caluglug, Alice Bacani, Maria Carmen Reyes, Ma. Soledad Tugade, Mariano Manas Jr., Apolinario delos Santos III, Giancarlo Nazario; and Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Juan Enrico Parfan.

    They said “contraceptive pills, hormonal contraceptives, and the IUD may kill children and injure the health of women who use them.”

    Village officials also believe that contraceptives “undermine the solidarity of families by promoting premarital sex, giving rise to more fatherless children, more single mothers, more poverty, and more abortions.”

    The resolution also claims that condoms are “unconstitutional” because “they promote and sanction immoral sexual congresses among the unmarried and especially among the young, thereby contradicting the Constitutional injunction that the State ‘shall promote and protect … the physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being of the youth.”

    Aside from asking people to present a prescription before they are allowed to buy condoms in Ayala Alabang, pharmacists are required by the ordinance to record the following data in a book for “abortives and anti-conceptionals":

    - Number and date of the prescription;

    - Name and address of the physician;

    - Name, quantity and manufacturer of the drug;

    - Name and address of the purchaser;

    - Date of filling the prescription; and

    - Signature of the pharmacist filling the prescription.

    Those who will violate the ordinance can be fined up to P500 or jailed for up to 4 months.

    Village officials said foreigners who will violate the measure should also be deported.

    Muntinlupa City officials have yet to comment on the ordinance.

    Ayala Alabang is a very influential and wealthy gated community. Perhaps it is those rich owners who are worried about their teenagers getting knocked up so they push through a law that appears to be confusing. Want to save lives: outlaw teens smoking.
    My view: I am a catholic but against the religion birth control and divorce laws. Moreover, against the church neglecting to address the priest child molestation problem. Just my opinion, not asking for support or challenges.

    The dumbest I have read for a long time!

    The guys in Barangay Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa City are drinking to much cocojuice mixed with cheap Tanduay.....

    As my wife just said...."NO WONDER THIS COUNTRY IS NOT GOING FORWARD"
    and she is a grown educated filipina....

    These cocojuice/tanduay drinkers should contact people in both USA and Europe and discuss the value of contraceptives, and stop being so intraverted, but maybe to late after years of brainwashing in the Catholic Church.

    The guys in Barangay Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa City, should start educate drunk men about not coming home to their wives and rape and inpregnate them. To many children are born in Philippines and that is one of the reasons why there are so many very poor families. If they cant afford two in a family why do the believe that 3, 4 or five kids is going to make there lives better?
    Family planning in Philippines... a neccesity.....it is about time.

    To the church people I recommend that they stop all the Godly pedofiles from luring young girls and boys into having sex with them. Some years ago I went to Rome and decided to go on a tour in The Vatican. It was wonderful all the way in to the Sistine chapel with all the wonderful paintings by Michelangelo.
    A wonderful day...but I started to think about all the harm created by the church..... not to good in my mind.

    The pope knows well about the pedo priests and has been teaching and encouraging guilty priests how to cover it up for many years. The proof of that is in his signed Crimen Sollictations written and sent to every catholic church in the world. They also tell the victim that they are under the constraints of the vows of confession if they bring abuse to the attention of a church official and therefore can not be acted on or reported to the police because it would be a violation of their vows.

    What crap is that.....

    Again...this Barangay story is one of the dumbest thing I have read in Philippines...

    Why don't we have similar Barangays in USA and Europe, well, because we can think and handle our lives without influence from some elected uneducated religious dumb asses.

    I don't know how to tell you this, but these ARE the educated people. How else would they get to be public officials in a rich community? Oh yeah, money!

    Don't kid yourself. There are plenty in the good ole USA that would love to see laws like this created.

    If I read this right it only applies to that Barangay, so all that you need to do is drive to the next Barangay to pick up the contraceptives. Right? That is like the wet and dry counties they have back home. It does not stop anything.

    To get a birth control shot at the Provincial Hospital they ask the woman if she has kids already. If she answers no, then no shot! If she answers yes, they ask how old and what the child's name is. If the woman is a convincing liar they will give her the shot. :D
