Sell it, sell it, sell it! Unless it is in one of the surrounding towns of Duma. Do you like a zillion trikes and scooters? Everyday there is a competition on who can be the most rude and impolite driver on the streets of Duma!

    No offense taken.
There are a zillion trikes and scooters that are way out of control and this situation is getting aggavated everyday! I personally know the person that owns the bank that gives out the loans for the motorcycle companies that sell the scooters. These scooter sales are through the roof! Also, I had a driver in Duma and I found that the massive amount of trikes and scooters to be very annoying to say the least! Try going through Duma early on Sunday morning around 7:30 am. Then, you will see what I mean. There are only a few scooters and trikes lurking around like mosquitoes with malaria!

The traffic problem (scooter, trikes, jeepneys), the lousy and old infrastructure; old sewer mains, old storm mains, not enough roads, most of the roads are in a dilapitated condition, the old bridges, the increasing population, etc. This and the fact that the power is intermittent, the telecommunications system is still below par. The restaraunts are fair to poor in quality, the food markets and grocery stores are fair to poor. The crime in the city is a problem too. Outside of Duma is a different story.

So I suggest that he sells that house in duma and get out while he can. Duma is not getting any better, it is getting worse! Do you see any new roads? Any new storm or sewer drains? Any new waste water treatment plants? The population is growing there too. He/she can get a better education for his/her children and live a better life in Subic.

traffic is horrendous. sometimes i am delayed by 4 minutes getting across town. i can see how u would pick up on your driver's frustration, time is money.

sorry about the sarcasm but sell sell sell is harsh and not what someone wants to hear, especially if they are located abroad, who has just bought a house and is committed to a future with many unknowns.

u are right there are bad points, but there are good points too and most of the bad points will not change in a hurry, so why bother letting them bug u. they are rebuilding a few roads and a few other minor infrastructure projects but why focus on that

u are right ownership of bikes is increasing, but is still very low. at some time the majority of households in the philippines, will own a $1000 indian car or two, so enjoy the good old days with relatively low levels of traffic while u can

glad the subic suits u better. there is a place for everyone

Although my biggest concern regarding Dumaguete is also the hugh number of tricycles (with their unpredicted movements :( , smoke-making 'silencers', missing backlights or even frontlights etc..etc..), I am not at all agreeing with you Tubigboy.
Good for you that you left for Subic. Good for many of us to keep staying here.
I see many road improvements. Yes...it takes time and their could be made more roads as well.
But I hope it stays provincial here without Metro-pretentions.
There are many new restaurants opened here the last few months and they all are quite good. You have been away too long TB :D
So Subig seems to have no problems with power intermittencies ??
"Food markets and grocery stores are fair to poor" you say. There are always better places to go for that but I can't complain at all.
Education ? I also can't complain to find fair schooling choises in this small city which is blessed with so many universities and colleges.

Carl....don't sell that house and form your own opinion.
There is time enough to do so when your judgement about Dumaguete is going the same way as Tubigboy in Subic.
With a growing population it even mon't be difficult to sell :D :D

Gents, who said I was living in Subic? I just said that Subic in my opinion is a better place for education for his kids, its right on the water and the infrastructure is better too. The power is more consistent. Hardly no scooters and trikes, the jeepneys adhere to a strickly regimented schedule. Again, I do not live there! I just think it is a better place to live. Plus, you have an international airport in Subic and you can go to Clark now in 30 minutes which also has an international airport.

I think RHB said it pretty well regarding the teachers in the school systems in Cebu or anywhere in the Philippines when he spoke about Cebu teachers. Basically the local teachers are not up to par. The Brent School in Subic and many other locations has a great educational system. Just because some place calls itself a "university or college" does not mean that it is a good school. I believe that UP and Ateneo are the only certfied and recognized schools of higher learning in the Philippines. By the way, there is a UP and Ateneo satellite campus up in Clark now. Silliman used to be good when they had American teachers, at least this is what a few of the alumni from that school told me.

I believe Carl said that he 'was finishing up on the contract of the house' which, implies that the steal I mean deal is not done! I may be wrong on this. Hey, I am just a realist and I am very candid about the reality of Duma. I do not like the bad points in duma and that is why I do not live there anymore. One of the best moves of my life!

4 minutes to get across dumaguete? What? By an airplane? Do you have a cape and does your shirt have a big "S" on it? Ha! Keep dreaming. The amount of scooters and bikes is still low? You, my friend are not being truthful. Duma beats China with amount of scooters and bikes, as far as I am concerned maybe per square meter in a shitty like duma, I mean city! The difference is that in China, they obey the traffic laws!

Time is money. I dont care about that. I just dont like the rude people deliberately cutting in front of people and taking advantage of people while they drive like maniacs on these trikes, bikes and scooters. Most of the time, they are breaking the traffic laws. How many times have you ever seen these rude maniacs wearing helmuts? Shoes and not flip flops? They dont wear them because their is not law enforcement! At the emergency rooms at the hospital, 80% of all the people coming in for emergency care are scooter or bike related! 80%!!! No, theres no problem! I read also that most of the hold up crimes are accomplished on bikes and scooters too. Listen, I had a mini bike and a motorcycle when I was younger. I wiped out a few times on these bikes too. When you wipe out or lay down your bike, then, you have an appreciation of fear and this fear transcends into respecting the traffic and ultimately the traffic laws too. Most of these maniacs have never had a scooter or bike so, they probably have never had to lay down the scooter or bike. So, when the maniacs laydown their scooters or bikes its in traffic and not out in some barren field. This is a big difference.
Carl dont buy the house and form your own opinion. Stay a few weeks or a month then, make a decision. Move out to Zamboguita! Much better than duma.

we get it, u are initiating the second summer of love in dumaguete

"4 minutes to get across dumaguete?" is not equal to "delayed by 4 minutes"
hint. if you do not like traffic, just walk, u can get most places in town in 10 minutes

maniac lunatic drivers? i am a cyclist and i regularly pass these maniac lunatic bikers well out of town.

for your sake i hope oil goes back up, $400-500 dollars a barrel will get you all your wishes. otherwise u will have more traffic and bigger vehicles everywhere in the developing world. but nothing that winging will not cure

but why look on the bright side of life. those 4 minutes are too valuable

Carl, I can tell you that I'm from Zamboanguita.
Yes it's much more quite here in Zamboanguita.
I love our place at the seaside.
By why do I go nearly every day to Dumaguete ?
    I'll tell you. 2 reasons:
    1) I have to shop, which I can't here in Zamboanguita.
    2) I love to be in Dumaguete for shopping, dining, having a cold one, meeting friends, the embiance around the boulevard ......

But ......some like it, some don't and go elsewhere like Tubig
although it seems that it was not to Subic.
    (I like to rhyme sometimes).
Yes we both agree ......find out yourself ..what do YOU appreciate.

Summer of love? I like that ! Sounds enticing! I digress.

Delayed by 4 minutes or takes 4 minutes both are incorrect. Try going to Duma early in the morning on a Sunday. Then, I agree with the delay of 4 minutes. Also, go to the hospitals and ask the people in the emergency section of the hospital what the percentage of emergency accidents are attributed to bikes and scooters. 80%! The bottom line is that there are too many of trikes, bikes and scooters.

Actually, I suggested in an earlier thread that Duma should put up an electric trolley system around the town. Maybe that Marc123 person should get involved with this project. The transportation is cheaper, pollution is decreased (GO GREEN), and it will alleviate the monstrocity of trikes, bikes, scooters and jeepneys.

Good luck in your home Carl or whatever decision you make. I guess if you dont like it, you could always sell it or rent it out if you are already committed. Real estate is usually a good investment. If you are not committed, then do what i did and take a look at other places.

Actually Jelly, you should come up here sometime to visit. You will want to move up here and keep your Zambo house as a beach getaway! Let me know if you are interested?
