To die for what you believe in, is honourable, to die for what somebody else believes in, is tragic......JB

A bit of this thread and the movies one in this reply - but just been watching an old TV series (from 1996 in the UK) "Our friends in the North" (on YouTube). This is probably not of interest to any non-UK citizens or even to most of them, but it covers the period 1964 to 1995 and the big theme running throughout it is corruption - both of the Met Police* and politicians (local and national). It reminds me so much of now - so it correlates with your opinion that "we have learnt very little from the past" (except that the corrupt have learned it still works for them). * In the last few days the UK has introduced stronger powers to sack errant police BUT put the police at the head of the sacking committee! Well, they would - wouldn't they!
[This was highly rated at the time but now is dated, except for the historical value (miners' strike, for example) but it's amazing how many actors are now so well known, including Daniel Craig, Christopher Eccleston and Mark Strong. Anyone familiar with UK actors will recognise most actors in this series.]-

A part quote from UCB Word for Today 27/08/2023
"Character;
Your reputation is how others see you but your character is what you see when you look at yourself in the mirror each day
Your thoughts determine your deeds, your deeds determine your habits, your habits determine your character and your character determines
your destiny"-
