Maybe, but my thinking is that a lot of these kidnappings are smaller amounts and they just get paid, no press, no police. There is a reason why kidnappings are so prevalent and I doubt it is because no one is paying.

The big question is - what do the Hyrons do now? Having been through that Hell once is no guarantee that the terrorists will not try again - I cannot see them wanting to return to Tukuran. Perhaps they will not even want to remain in the Philippines. So what to do about all their businesses?

They are very lucky people (without getting this thread bogged down by the concept of 'luck') - the terrorists may well have killed them at the point of attempted rescue. It is another eye-opener for foreigners here - Mindanao is NOT the best place to live and definitely not coastal.

Plenty of Filipino's get kidnapped as well, they just don't make the news.

Still are kidnapped and no leads or ransom has been updated anywhere. But Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana of the Philippines is also talking to British Official Offices now, so some added pressure hopefully can bring about some results. It is more strongly felt that this could be a revenge for ransom or extortion in regards to some fired employee's that worked for the couple.
