Left Cebu tonight and landed in Manila. I am regretting my choice of hotel in Manila (Tunes Hotel in Mabini St, Malate). All the bar names are written in Korean. The two places I have been in charge a ridiculous amount for a beer (90 pesos with a 10 percent service charge). Want a bottle of Tanduay 5 year, no problem, it'll only cost you 2k plus the 10 percent service charge. I always say that foreigners get screwed here but I'm really glad I'm not a Korean as I see it as they get it (and take it) far worse than me. I've noticed the same thing in Olongapo, Cebu, Angeles and other cities. Anywhere Koreans frequent they charge 40-100 percent more than a bar for westerners, even if located right next door. What the hell is wrong with Koreans? Are they that clueless or do they just not give a crap? I've also noticed that I am not nearly as welcome in the establishment as the Koreans are. Maybe they are scared some white guy will give the Koreans a clue.
Btw, the only reason I picked that hotel is because the pension house was fully booked and the taxi meter was getting high looking for another (sometimes it pays to plan ahead). Thought I'd get off cheap if I stayed away from Burgas street in Makati. Tunes Hotel here was 2300 pesos. Makati palace hotel is 1200 or 1500.Thanks for jacking up the prices in this sh*t part of manila Koreans. Going to go walk around this unknown part of manila for a decent bar/pub.....something I hate to do by myself. Hopefully Google maps pulls through for me. Forgot my paper map of manila at the house .
In Cebu I remember talking to taxi drivers, if there's a group of male koreans wanting a taxi, taxi drivers don't let them in because especially when they're drunk they don't pay and they say NO ENGLISH and they will give the driver cheap Charlie amount. Maybe it has something to do with them being a hardcore party goers like wherever you go in cebu's pubs there's Koreans everywhere! They probably knew they were ripped off but probably couldn't care less? Who knows. But they get in a lot of troubles too.
Wrye, the Manila Bay Cafe (it's actually a bar formerly called the L.A. Cafe) is in the area. Booze, girls, pool tables and sometimes bands. As I recall prices were reasonable, but last time I was there was 3 years ago with my son, strictly for a few drinks and a look
Already moved to Burgos St. What a horrible place Mabini is. They Dont even charge less for operating in a sh*t hole. I'll leave it to the Koreans and Japs.
In Burgos a decent place to go is Heckel and Jeckel, a block off Burgos. It is a cool Sports Bar not a girlie bar. If you drop by, could you please say hi for me to an old friend named Ruby working there. Cheers
Are you sure? People went there last week and posted it was a great place. Heckle and Jeckle, Jupiter Street a block from Makati Avenue. Did you go there after 6pm? If you go to Bottoms Up, check out the girl who goes my 'Upbottom'.
Did you mean "the girl that goes by upbottom" as in its her bar name? I can only imagine what type of reference you are talking about, I'll go there tonight and see what it could be.
