Duterte promised death squads and he is delivering, the Commies promised death squads and are delivering. Probably a good deal of bribes, smuggling and politics mixed in as well. I'm not sure what country serves as an example of oppression and violence leading to peace and prosperity that these leaders follow, it seems to generally be a losing game to me. You want drug violence? Raise the stakes and make it more profitable but also more dangerous. You want political violence? Use violence to silence your opposition. Hopefully it all settles down soon. The silver lining for me I guess is that it will discourage foreigners from moving there and cool off property prices and an ex-pat overpopulation. La Trinidad is looking better right now though.
