I agreed with everything you said except this part. While I was in the military working with other nations proper respect was given to their flags, National anthems and military officers. A diplomat would be expected to show the proper courtesy and respect as well. Not standing for a national anthem of another country would land you some serious reprimand as a diplomat, perhaps even forced to resign the post. Standing for other country's anthems should be a given. Even more so when you are a guest in said country. The guy who didn't stand was likely being disrespectful to the lawyer, which triggered this retarded case against him. I imagine the lawyer lost some face in the cinema.
