Our problem solved by a kind neighbour that has offered to have our leaves tipped in their very large hole. Does all seem a bit cock-eyed though.

OK, I was really surprised at this initial post, but it kept going and I became interested.

I talked with my Landlord today about this. He explained that some still do the burns, but you can get reported to the police and then face a fine if someone calls them and complains about it. Sort of made me think, if you are a Foreigner, might not want to do a burn.

He explained to me that the local government wants people to dig holes, and make compost. I thought, that is a lot of holes or one really big one that is constantly dug up or your lawn becomes what looks like a dog run area with all of the dirt and no grass.

I'm thinking people will go to the hills and roadsides and simply deposit the leaves. Maybe throw them in the small rivers and streams, the ocean even. Maybe a small compost site for the growers, but on average, nope.

From the City of the Gentle People, to the City of Dead Leaves All Over.

Let's hope they don't.......and turn over a new leaf
I still like the bury and plant idea at the beach resort.

Wherever you throw the leaves, it's better than burning them. I really don't get what all the constant cleaning up of fallen leaves is all about anyways, other than a habit and keeping people busy. Maybe the city should set up a separate centralized collection site somewhere just for leaves etc. I believe there's even ways to generate energy from the heat that is generated by such a giant pile of compost.

That they are actually acting and fining people for burning is really great news.

I think there are some ways to set up a compost even without having a larger spot to dig a hole - question is if any of such garden composters are on sale here. Might be a business opportunity

Four corner posts and wire netting will do. Or can use timber - just allow air to flow through.

That's the second 'hol(e) has been suggested so far. Can we collectively think of any others?
