This is a constant problem for me in general. My situation might be worse because I use a basic Linux system. Windows must have more built in automated tools for fixing the problem because I can't see everyone having as much problems as I have.

If you call the provider and they are able to fix it, then they are likely just refreshing your IP. I can generally fix connection issue by refreshing the IP from from my operating system (I don't need to reset the router.)

The reset works, but certain sites may revert back to failing connections after just one page view. I can usually fix this issue by using a third party DNS connection.

I generally use the DNS server provided by Google.

Instructions on setting this may differ according to your OS and provider. I'm able to set this right from my OS rather than having to log into my router. Even then, I still have to refresh my connection once or twice a day.

Even after refreshing my IP and changing my DNS, some sites still won't load. In this case I have to use a proxy. One option is to use one of the many web based proxies available, such as the one mentioned.

Another option is to get a real proxy connection (as opposed to web site which just retrieves other pages for you.) There are quite a bit of these services out there and generally pretty cheap. The only problem is that they can slow down your connection by adding more lag. A free option is to use TOR.
