i MOVED down from Cebu after being there 11 years.

I'm happily married and converse with my wife but miss the expat friendships
    I had in Cebu.

Most of my friends are English and Australian businessmen but even a fellow septic would be cool. Filos, Qiwi's, Frenchies Norwiegans too! I'm looking for mildly intellectual conversation (i.e. can read) on my balcony by the beach sipping some wine, beer or even tanduay. If anybody fitting the above description is bored write me marinomedia [at] yahoo.com.

I'm a truth seeker for whatever that means and have lots of intriguing media I'd like to share for entertainment and enlightenment BLAAA.

This sounds terrible.. sheeeese .. bottom line is I have small ego just
want to find some good buds to hang out with before I go crazy!

I feel all alone down here and it sucks!

    Heh Loney,
Good conversation and especially enlightened discourse fueled by a few glasses is always welcome. It seems we have travelled a similar path. I lived in Cebu from 1979 to 1994 and have been married to my filipina bride for almost 30 years. I had to go back to the States for a few years and when I came back Cebu was no longer liveable so we moved over to Dumaguete a few months ago.

Go to the boulevard, your soon make friends the english guy's mostly hand out in Happy Freds late after noon. Why not's is a good choice through out the day or the dive shop, there are of course other places. On Rizal Boulavard

    Interactive map of Dumaguete.

    Map showing Happy Fred

The Dive Bar is two doors away to the south and Why Not's is a few blocks down past Dr V Locsin Street and before Legaspi Street.

making friends in Dumaguete City is not that hard, take a few business cards they are always handy. Wish you luck and may you enjoy this great city and have fun.

When Robinsons Mall is built perhaps it will bring a bit of Cebu Mall life to Dumaguete, however its not the type of place this foreigner would stick around in. Cebu life is not for me but I can understand where your coming from.

Septic, eh? Been a while while since I was referred to as a septic. Beer sounds good, where's the beach?

I posted this in another thread, but a lot of local Americans like to talk over morning coffee in McDonald's.

The dude's mention of McD's is a hoot. I think all the Fils go down there to stare at the foreigners, especially the Yanks. It's a blast!

The overage, overweight, over-white crowd hangs together checking their bank balances on laptops. Their much younger Filapina spouses, GFs & rentals congregate separately. They are far quieter.

If Yanks wonder why they have an image problem in most of the world, they should just listen to themselves talk. It's too loud to start with. What may pass for conversational brilliance in DUBYA-land is quickly identifiable as profound ignorance on almost any subject here.

Still it's a wonderful spectator sport. I need a fx about every week or so, mostly in order to remind myself to stay away the rest of the time!

Yep your right some dudes nearly push the tables over with their fat beer guts, lol glad you didn't mention the thin relaxed handsome mature old Brits with their beautiful young slim model like wives as that's my pigeon hole. lol
But why do the yanks shout so loud, could it be they like to hear themselves speak or they are deaf and think everyone else is. lol

All kidding aside many of the yanks are great guys and just eat too many big Mac's and their women are mostly gorgeous a blessing to any mans eyes. Hey! don't frighten the yanks off as I love looking at the sexy gals. Its my fix... lol

I bet if you took a poll, there's not one "Yank" in all of the Phillipines that gives a d*mn what you think! Curiously, there aren't any Yanks here in the USA that give a d*mn what Canadians think. As a matter of fact, I've never met any person in any country that cares what Canadians think! If we "Yanks" have such an "image problem" why is it that our images( movies, music, magazines, TV programs, fast food restaurants) are ringing cash registers all over the world?
