Still room for a few more, the gas tank is wide open and there's room for a few little ones between the women!

DTI -7 director to attend meeting in Manila on ICC stickers

    By Fayette C. Rien
    Thursday 21st of June 2012

CEBU CITY, June 21 (PIA) -- Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 7 regional director Asteria Caberte will attend an emergency meeting today in Manila to get updates on International Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers for motorcycle helmets.

ICC stickers are required by law as proof that a helmet has met safety standards. RA 1054 or the Helmet Law will take effect in August, according to Raul Aguilos, regional director of the Land Transportation Office. Aguilos said that motorcycle riders caught not wearing standard protective helmet face P1,500 penalty for the first offense and a bigger amount for succeeding violations.

Approved-standard helmets bear the ICC or PS (Philippine Standard) mark.

Caberte said she hopes to bring back the ICC stickers and distribute these to the different DTI provincial offices.

“Once the stickers are available, I will immediately inform the media to seek their assistance in disseminating to the public for motorcycle owners to seek certification of their helmets whether these fall under the approved standard protective helmet,” said Caberte.

The DTI-7 chief said there are 40 compliant brands of helmets available in the market which already bear the ICC mark.

“But for those who just bought their helmet without the ICC mark, we urge them to certify their helmets from the DTI provincial office in their area. If they pass the approved standards, then we would give them the ICC sticker,” said Caberte.

Helmets that still need to be certified would still be inspected by the DTI of which the critical features for inspection are no crack, padding still in good condition and the chin lock is functional, this is said.

“In case the helmet has defects, then the DTI will not certify it as safe,” bared Caberte.

“Drivers on the other hand, are liable for their back ride who is seen not wearing the approved-standard helmet,” stressed Aguilos. (PIA-Cebu)

DTI: MOTORCYCLE DRIVERS CAN SECURE ICC/PS HELMET STICKERS

Good news! The Department of Trade and Industry announces that motorcycle drivers who owned an old or previously purchased motorcycle protective helmet can secure the required ICC or PS stickers to avoid apprehension starting August 1, 2012.

Bad news! For now, motorcycle owners/drivers have to wait for the announcement from DTI when the stickers shall be available for distribution, says DTI Regional Director Asteria Caberte during theDyAB Traffic Summit early today.

The stickers are available at P1.25 only but the motorcycle drivers have to pay the processing fee of P100 upon securing the sticker at the DTI. Caberte warned motorists of the scam selling fake ICC and PS stickers as their agency is filing charges against an individual who was caught selling it.

The ICC (Import Compliance Certificate) sticker is issued to all imported helmet while the PS (Product Standard) sticker is issued to all locally-manufactured helmet.

Most of the available motorcycle protective helmet in the market is imported. Though, according to Director Caberte there are already local manufacturers that passed the standard requirements.

The DTI has listed 49 brands of approved motorcycle helmet.
