Xenforo is getting close to releasing a major forum software update (v2.0). I will be prepping the server in the upcoming weeks/months for this update. No solid date for when I will update yet - I will be a fairly early adopter of the update - but I plan to start the prep-work in the next day or so. You shouldn't notice anything until I update the forum software so long as I don't screw up....which I have been known to do from time to time. This is just a heads up on changes that coming "soon".

Don't forget to make a backup first. There are so many website owners, which don't make a backup before applying a major update/upgrade to their website. The result was quite often an outage of the website for several hours or even days.

Learned that lesson a long time ago when I was rooting and flashing custom ROMs to my Android devices. Backups on this site are automatically performed every couple days and I wouldn't make any major changes without doing the appropriate backups.

I was working for a real estate broker in the past. I told him that he should make daily backups. The day after I did installed him a backup solution the database failed to work. Thanks to the backup nothing was lost. He never made a backup before I told him to do backups.

The site is having some issues due to some fiber optic cables (deep-sea) that were damaged which are messing with DO's Singapore servers.

I, of course, was in the middle of updates when I found this out. I'm halfway into them so I'm just going to push forward and hope for the best. These are some pretty major server upgrades but I'm told they are compatible so.....yeah, here it goes.

It seems that the site is a bit faster for me. Anyone else see a noticeable speed difference?

I don't see any issues with DI (yet) but it appears that it broke a different forum I am running on this server. Gonna have to figure that one out and rebuild again.

Edit: scratch that. I broke something. sh*t.

I had issues earlier that the site would not load, could not be found. Must have been during the time you were working on it. Loads great and fast now - even in Valencia LOL

That was mainly due to me doing something really really stupid. Attempted to upgrade the server's OS without reading any documentation on it first. :banghead:
It is noticeably faster for me as well....but I'm not done messing about with it just yet. Gotta close up some security issues. After I'm finished the server should be fully prepped for the major forum software update....whenever that might come out.

If you want an idea of what the forum will look like after the software update this is it.

While viewing this sub-forum you will be forced to use this theme. I will gradually force more of the forum to be viewed with this theme so that the transition can be a bit smoother for those that have a hard time adjusting to change or are not very computer suave. (Perhaps wishful thinking.)

If you want to see other sections of the forum with this new look you can click here to make this your preferred theme. If you want to go back to the old theme you can click here. (Note: while in this sub-forum you cannot use the old theme.)

When the update comes out things may operate differently or have added functions but this theme does do a pretty good job of at least showing the location of where things will be.

This will also allow me to fine tune the look/feel/layout of the forum before the update comes out. I'd rather slowly get things looking right than having to spend 24 hours awake trying to figure out what works and what doesn't.

Again, please remember that this is just CSS/design trickery, not software/functionality changes.
