I'd love to see an Irish or British pub in Dumaguete. Night life sucks in Dumaguete. There's only why-not bar, and that's not a real pub. I used to like going into Happy- Freds.
Now there's nada.![]()

Usually malls just bring the same thing the other malls have. How many Jollibees, siopao and shumai places can a city possibly have? What type of restaurants would you like to see? Authentic Filipino/Thai/Chinese restaurants? Personally I'd like to see some authentic Filipino cuisine. I know there is really no such thing as the tastes are largely regional, but even an authentic authentic Visayan restaurant would be nice. (Maybe there is one that I just don't know about) What type of stores would you like to see in the malls? More home improvement, clothing stores, a big and tall clothing store? (Judging from the size of some of the bellies in Dumaguete I would say that has to be a major concern.
)
There are more ways that it is not than ways that it is. It's been awhile since I've spent any amount of time in the US though. Maybe it has really gone down hill in the last decade though. I really hope my home country would never take on such a massive scale cleanup. We have enough problems of our own.
You mean like: mobile phones, the internet, fast food, shopping malls, cars, motorcycles, paved roads, electricity, houses and apartments not made from Bamboo, electric fans, air conditioning? With out all the "western bullshit" most wouldn't be living here. I'm not sure what "bullshit" the West has brought to the Philippines (ok, fast food is some bullshit).
If I only put my thoughts and didn't want any input from others it would just be a blog wouldn't it?
I wanted some thoughts on what people wish the city had. We have all thought at one time that it would be better if the laws were strictly enforced......but would it really be better? Or would we have our freedoms slowly squashed like they have been in our home countries? I was wanting to avoid the traffic/noise/trash suggestions/complaints because they exist in most every thread where improvements are the subject....but then again, maybe that is all it would take for some to consider this place their perfect retirement country.

Well.... it was not long ago that the west was won in North America and look at it now. As the Philippines fail more and more....someones going to win it! Worlds in a hyperdrive and change is gonna come. I bet in my life time we will see expats in politics there! Some one has to help 26 million rise above poverty and it's not going to happen with out a wake up!-

Having grocery stores open earlier and later would be a plus. Sunrise shopping at the market and morning coffee is great, it would be nice to have more businesses open early too.

sorry for that reply, I was talking before thinking I guess you might say. You are correct. I just heard so many complaints from other groups about the way things are in the phils and I guess that has been in my mind. I no longer belong to those groups because it is depressing. So, once again I apologize. Have a good day. Let's have a beer at one of these new talked about resos-

The post was "How to make Dumaguete better".... "Not about coming and living with what we have". It is also just my opinion and we are all entitled to one. Thank you for the peanuts anyways!-

It would seem the 'east/west' syndrome is alive and well in Phils also Jack. Both Phils and Thailand are crying out for development to keep pace with the world. But alas,
the silly 'loyalist' defy modern progress with this selfish attitude.
Australia is far too lenient in allowing foreign ownership, but there is a happy middle ground that can satisfy both sides, but it seems it is never reached.-
