Cleaning the Streets and keeping them clean would be a good start.
Make all Shop keepers clean their Windows and shop fronts. Every day if needed.:whistling:

Usually malls just bring the same thing the other malls have. How many Jollibees, siopao and shumai places can a city possibly have? What type of restaurants would you like to see? Authentic Filipino/Thai/Chinese restaurants? Personally I'd like to see some authentic Filipino cuisine. I know there is really no such thing as the tastes are largely regional, but even an authentic authentic Visayan restaurant would be nice. (Maybe there is one that I just don't know about) What type of stores would you like to see in the malls? More home improvement, clothing stores, a big and tall clothing store? (Judging from the size of some of the bellies in Dumaguete I would say that has to be a major concern.)

There are more ways that it is not than ways that it is. It's been awhile since I've spent any amount of time in the US though. Maybe it has really gone down hill in the last decade though. I really hope my home country would never take on such a massive scale cleanup. We have enough problems of our own.

You mean like: mobile phones, the internet, fast food, shopping malls, cars, motorcycles, paved roads, electricity, houses and apartments not made from Bamboo, electric fans, air conditioning? With out all the "western bullshit" most wouldn't be living here. I'm not sure what "bullshit" the West has brought to the Philippines (ok, fast food is some bullshit).

If I only put my thoughts and didn't want any input from others it would just be a blog wouldn't it? :o o: I wanted some thoughts on what people wish the city had. We have all thought at one time that it would be better if the laws were strictly enforced......but would it really be better? Or would we have our freedoms slowly squashed like they have been in our home countries? I was wanting to avoid the traffic/noise/trash suggestions/complaints because they exist in most every thread where improvements are the subject....but then again, maybe that is all it would take for some to consider this place their perfect retirement country.

You didn't POOH POOH my thoughts on more little/ medium Urban garden type things where people could go sit with a sandwich and things Do you think I got something a little right along those lines. there are quite a few empty lots all around the City that to me are just wasted. In Spain the Government put on Owners, Use it or Loose it warnings to get the Areas cleaned up Every little Helps!

What I meant with western bullshit was being watched at every corner, red tape, health and safety issues which are well over the top now in the uk, the eu laws brought all this stuff in.
Taxation which is way too high for just about everything in most western countries.

What would be great to have here is an authentic Indian and Thai resto here or even chinese.
There used to be an Indian resto a little bit back from the boulevard bit it was awful and staff were terrible, nearly every time I was there they brought the wrong order, it didn't last long.

I'd love to see an Irish or British pub in Dumaguete. Night life sucks in Dumaguete. There's only why-not bar, and that's not a real pub. I used to like going into Happy- Freds.
    Now there's nada.
