    Honestly, they have no balls and the situation is status quo, maybe worse. Dumaguete is a terribly polluted city!
    But you maybe can get some fresh air at Jolly Bee or Mc Do's. I doubt it.

    And your chance of getting injured (versus driving a car or truck) rises by about the same percentage.

    Probably more like 400% or even more. On the upside you are fairly safe riding a tricycle, since it can not turn over, and since it is moving so slowly. So if you can´t beat them (get rid of them), and you are worried about your safety, then maybe join them? :-)

    Totally agree roger,there are far too many unsafe wrecks on the road. It would be nice to see them all gone and maybe some decent jeepneys on some sort of structured routes instead of the total mess is now! I was in south Cebu the other day and noticed how nice the trykes were over there, clean,painted and looked after,nice seating also.
    As far as Dumaguete they look like rusty death traps,jagged metel,junk, bent wheels and knackered suspension and most without lights.

    One of the reasons I don't go to the boulevard, getting there through all that crap and then the pollution and dust,it's not enjoyable trying to eat your dinner with belching two strokes and buses,trucks.

    The local government really needs to clean up there act and do something about the mess!

    Living in Olongapo before I would have to disagree that jeepneys would improve anything, they are a real problem up there. They can be even more of a problem than the trikes. Bigger engines (read more pollution), take up more space on the road and make just as many stops as the trikes. One jeepneys could replace 3 or 4 trikes in terms passengers if they were the original jeepney style, you'd need more if it were easy rides as they carry less people. So you'd have around 1000 or more of them chugging around the city streets making random stops and blocking traffic. You also have to ask who is going to be driving them.....my guess is the current trike drivers. They really don't need to be driving anything bigger than they already have.

    Really guys, I cannot understand why you all make such a fuss about this. It's the way of life here, and there's little possibility to do anything about it. The infrastructure is simply inadequate and extremely hard (and costly) to improve / change to a situation where you could exchange trikes for jeepneys. Sure, there's a lot of room for improvement when you look at the roadworthiness of the trikes, but again: who will foot the bill? If you want the trike owners to do that, prices of fares would go up and you'd have a popular uprising on your hands. Just look at the comments of the commuters in Manila now they've introduced the ban on provincial busses in town and people will have to get to a terminal to catch a bus going to the province or vice versa. BTW: it wasn't Estrada's doing, so don't give him the credit - the MMDA is the culprit / hero. I understand where you all are coming from: I was used to streamlined and relatively clean and safe public transportation too, but things are different here. It's the raw reality I'm afraid....

    Vic: I agree, nothing will change anytime soon in dumaguete......at least for the better. The only thing that will change here will be more people, more trikes, more pollution and more traffic. I don't see much fuss here though. Just people giving their 2 cents on the topic.

    My 2 cents here;

    As per Wiki census Surigao city has 173,000 population more, i visit the place every year. I noticed that they are more discipline and organized when it comes to transportation.

    Lto office(2007) was running smooth i didn't yelled to anyone no blood pressure a raised, the same experienced i had when i registered vehicle in Siquijor (2005).

    The city Road of Surigao; From Bus/easyride terminal going to the Pier they have designated route where only easyrides, private vehicles(taking at least 10-14persons) are allowed to access. Trikes has also its own routes and drop off/pick up points which ALL trike drivers strictly followed. They were even upset with me when i insist to be drop off in restricted area. So that means the driver educate the passenger! I don't know if it happens here in Duma, i think its the other way around.O-|

    If the passenger arrives in surigao thru airport there's a public trike & easyside (vise versa) that has a route going to bus terminal/jeepney(passenger going to mainland), city center(going to city) until the pier(going to islands).University/Colleges area has also designated routes for public vehicles. That means there is not so much demand of more useless public transport. Easyride takes 10-14pax, and trike usually takes 2pax, and another thing is from easyride terminal they only go when sits are full, so somehow it lessen the road traffic flow if there is.
    Helmets is strictly implemented,there's few young idiots sometimes but majority motrcycle driver and passenger are wearing helmets. There's always police around the city monitoring, and Criminology students are taking part of the road traffic aside from very few enforcer. Most of the trikes(i haven't seen a falling apart or deteriorated one) are in good condition. And, they really are good discipline drivers. Btw, my husband never had a bad encounter with drivers there unlike here almost everytime he goes to the city he yelled to somebody. Ayayaay!

    For Duma, I think easyride route(with full sits go) from Airport taking highway street, drop off , Provincial hospital, Lto, Nurso, Silliman corner, perdices st, Quezon park until Robinsons would somehwless the flow. Trikes can take Pier and other streets route, and abolished those deteriorated units.

    Sorry, long inputs..:cool:
