It was the Russians who first nicknamed her the Iron Lady. Love her or hate her, she did more than anyone to thaw east/west relations by working with and not against Gorbachev. That in itself was the prelude to the break-up of the USSR as we knew it.

Some liked her, some didn't, but she was very well respected world-wide.

She sold Britain and divide us, those that have and those who have not.

Well posted John Boy, she was a great leader but i am afraid she was wrong on the miners disputes, and on the industries in the north. Also don't put all your eggs in one basket, no coal now so we pay top price for gas from here and abroad. My latest coal was from Poland, thank god I burn wood, and oil for the central heating. All politicians have there failings, take Tony Blair, yes please take him. Todays latest the Members of Parliament, were paid £3750.00 yes £3750.00 for 1 day for going into parliament early, to discuss Maggie and pay tribute. You don't need paying to pay tributes.

I used to be Nostalgic, But that was a long time ago.

Yes Stilo, She may well of helped end the Cold War with Russia, but she started a Coal War here in Britain!
It was suggested to me today that the reason behind wanting to close the British Coal Mines was because coal could be brought cheaper from Poland at that time. Now with the imported Coal/Gas, "Putin has put the Boot-in" and we are held to ransom by the Russians.

Whatever else she may be remembered for....
Stopping the School Milk allowance, Poll Tax, Decimating the Coal-Steel-Shipbuilding Industries and 3million unemployed people and the attempted destruction of the Trade Unions.
I sincerely hope that her Funeral will be a peaceful one. That although the Trade Unions can never forget the past, they won't allow the minority extreme left wingers to disrupt the proceedings.

Foot note; estimated cost of the Funeral is £10,million, I rest my case.
