thats also the page I use since years. from that site one gets to almost all other needed forecast sites if needed, but usually it has enough info right on there
Max Sea Wave Height (near center): 45 ft Possible Storm Surge Height: 13-18 ft [4-5.5 m] WOW! I'm glad it's heading away from the Philippines!
PAGASA - DOST - DOST SERVICE INSTITUTES If they are not on holiday, at a fiesta, gone to a funeral, closed for lunch, or can't find the "key" you might find some information here. Buy a compass. We have 4 of them,, keychain style. Cost P20 each at Super Lee sports section. They work great, if one knows N,E, S, W. I can see why the "panic" started during Feb. after the earthquake. Some of those people are posting on here. We almost got trampled to death by a totally out of control mass of so called humanity trying to escape to higher ground to avoid the tsunami ! Once again total ignorance as to how big a tsunami can be, how fast it travels, how high up is safe, where it could strike, not a darn clue. I spent a fair share of my life doing search and rescue with the U.S. Coast Guard where we also had to chase storms . lol No wet suits, no survival suits, no self-righting boat, just do it. The single biggest reason for us to risk our lives day and night was public stupidity. No complaining, just stating a fact. Happy Fathers Day.
I was the K9 handler for a search and Rescue unit in Wyoming. You are right, human stupidity knows no boundaries. Larry
Someday perhaps we'll meet and we can trade war stories. I was also a Federal Boarding Officer for the U.S. Treasury Department at the same time as being in the Coast Guard as we were under them at the time. So adding in those expereinces to the S & R there is no doubt in my mind that at least half the general population should not even be allowed to operate a boat/vessel. Or a car for that matter. My tickets if you were a big enough idiot to warrant one started at $500.00 plus an apperance in Federal Court, and that was in the 60's. Here's a funny one, one day a passenger plane went down, exact position unknown, just a general idea. So some went out in the boats, some of us walked miles of beaches until we met the guy coming from the other direction. Some old idiot tried to tell me I wasn't allowed to walk on"his" beach. I quickly and politely explained the situation to him and asked him if he would like to proceed immediately to a Federal prison with a hefty fine to boot. Can you imaginge,, here I am looking for survivors, wreckage, dead bodies and this joker thinks he owns the beach ! I did find some parts, so I radioed in. Perhaps we should write books on our experiences with these jerks and jerkettes. I never did like dead bodies, especially the rotting smelly ones that fell apart when you touched them trying to get them in a body bag or whatever. So yes I got quite stern with idiots with no life jackets, over loaded boats, and so on. Dragging for bodies was a real treat also, hooked some 17 year old kid that drowned and he comes to the surface with one of those big hooks in his eye. Meanwhile the parents are standing on shore watching the whole thing. Anyone wondering why not having adeqaute life jackets and so on up-sets the living sh*t out of me/us ? As you probably know Larry that is but the tip of the iceberg in those type of stories. I'd perhaps be interested to meet and dicuss some of your experiences. I have met too many expats though with far too much "baggage" as I am sure you know what I mean so I am cautious perhaps a bit cynical. See ya, Semper paratus !
I'm a former Navy Seal with service connected PTSD. It's bad enough they gave me a pension. Some days I hate the world, I have to work really hard to keep my spirits up. But with the disease I'm always expecting something terrible is about to happen. Even when absolutely nothing is happening and everybody is happy around me. I have this premonition of impending disaster... So stuff like big typhoons gets me as uneasy as can be.
I don't tell many people about that, but you guys are mostly alright, I sure appreciate this website.
Many of us have excess baggage from different sources, military, divorce, family disasters, whatever. No worries.
