    Reading this thread has made me re-think wearing a helmet. I stopped because it was a pain to carry around the d*mn thing. What do theirs when they go shopping?

    I bought a doggy choke chain at HyperMart today. The choke chain goes through the chin bar on my full face helmet and the rings go on the 2 hooks inside the Ubox. Hopefully this will deter a casual thief.

    Again what does everyone else do with their helmets?

    I carry mine, my gf handles the spending money part. If I'm on my own I put my helmet in the box on the back of my bike (that can be purchased for around 2.5k at most motorcycle parts store) and lock it. If I'm on one of the bikes that doesn't have a box on the back I can't really do much shopping anyway. All the restaurants/bars I go to will allow me to place my helmet behind the bar. (I could see the helmet storage/theft being a major problem if they ever actually enforced the helmet law. If it ever start to it look like they are going enforce that law I'm going to order a shipping container of some cheap little helmet locks from China!)

    When I go shopping I just check it with the package counter in almost all stores and pick it up on my way out. Never had a problem with it going missing.

    Whenever I am worried about it being there when I come back I will put a gun lock through the "D" rings and lock it to the backrest.

    In case you are not familiar the gun lock is a small padlock with a cable approximately 12" long which serves as the shackle.

    These recent accidents and having to accompany another expat to Silliman when he hit an excavator on the road ( no lights no warning signs) have caused me to rethink things .

    I always wear a open face helmet but am wondering whether to upgrade to a full face because it protects the jaw. Are there any helmets out there that have good ventilation that can cope with the heat and humidity? I did see an Aria Tropic online but its 400 bucks. Now I know thats cheaper than CT scan and a couple of nights in Silliman intensive care but if I bought something like that would it just be a sweatbox? and discarded a few weeks later.

    Spider (Spyder?) at Robinsons has some decent helmets for around 3-4k pesos. I buy the helmets with flip-up front face protection for riding around town (you can flip them up when riding at low speeds or stopped in town for more airflow, I personally feel that the ventilation is more than enough with the front down when riding above 40kph).

    Yes, I agree but the full face helmets for me anyways restrict my vision and I prefer to look around me and use my mirrors.

    I don't have to turn my head to see my mirrors and I can barely see my helmet in my peripheral vision (checking blind spots takes little more effort than without a helmet) and, luckily, it's not all that common for cars/motorcycles to come at me from the sky or from directly under my chin. My face and chin aren't made out of titanium.....and I'd prefer to keep it that way.

    Risk-reward is up to the rider IMO.......I just can't risk a half-face helmet while having a face as gwapo as mine, life wouldn't be worth living with that being gone.
