If you are staying away from Cebu relatives, take note that Dumaguete is just five hours away by Ceres bus from Cebu. Yes, BPO would be a fast short time option. What is your academic training?
Signing a long term contract will almost always lead to smaller rental fees when it comes to apartments. I don't think the lodging/boarding houses require a contract though. You're going to be hard pressed to find a boarding house with a kitchen though. Maybe there is someone out there who has a boarding house with a shared kitchen.
i guess i'll just have to forego with a kitchen then. i can't afford long-term contracts right now, as i might not stay longer than 4 months (hopefully not longer than that). it's been more than a decade since i've lived in a boarding house, and almost a decade since i've visited friends living in boarding houses, so i have no idea how things look like now.
There are many around Dumaguete. Most are disgusting places. You'll have to look around to find a decent one. I'd say 2-3k a month would land you a nice boarding house with a private room. My biggest concern with boarding houses would be securing your personal belongings. I've seen many with only a piece of plywood on a hinge for a door. There is one across from Robinsons called, Negros Lodging House, or something similar that looks decent from the outside. Never been inside though.
just enough to deter them a bit, and at least i would be alerted if anyone's coming since relatives would have to ask my family for my address. not like if i were to live with my family, they could just come anytime they want to. i've worked with a BPO before, and had some transcription training as well before the company folded. i've tutored preschool and grade-school kids as well as koreans of various ages for english.
that's my concern. i remember my friends' boarding houses as really dingy places with very little security. i need to secure my laptop, but in worst case scenario, i may have to leave my laptop here, copy the essential documents to thumb drives/SD cards, and just buy a tablet once i get there. something less bulky than my laptop. now if there's no kitchen, how do people manage to save up on their meals without cooking?
well, i guess the upside to not eating much and just commuting around on foot would be going back to my 85 lb frame that would surely shock my coworkers who are used to seeing my 100lb frame.
University dorms in phils are for students only, In silliman students at dorms are charge from 4-16k per semester(6months), aircon units is always occupaid. i visited one boarding house behind Coco grande hotel, they charge 2,500 per head with 4 occupants in a room. Most of the students here has its own computer better than mine, cellphones are also modern ones, i guess families work hard to provide such gadgets. Now, for your belongings safety, i think its better not to show off while on visit, but i saw the gadgets of those borders!they have Mac, Iphones... food are so cheap at kiosk/ stall type food stand around silliman, cost 30-45 pesos for combo meal, laundry is 18-25per kilo. It is really cheap to live here as students life if you know where & how to.
i've always been low-key. in all of my 6 years of living in the US, i've only upgraded to a smartphone just this year because of work. i yet have to own a tablet. i don't have any of the latest gadgets. i only try to read/talk about them just so i'm not as behind on technology. my brothers and relatives have better stuff than i do.
