Smoke while they walk. Not saying that Filipino smokers behave better but these Koreans find it normal crossing the hotel lobby with their lighted cigs. Same is true with ignorant Chinese choosing to put their cig butts in beer bottles even if the ashtray is in front of them not to mention the mess they leave in a buffet setting.
Ooops, out of topic! Ugh!

Well I guess you better get used to the "service charge" being the norm in service related businesses if Koreans start coming in masses. Automatic 10% price increase for everyone. When Korean and Japanese tourists start showing up in mass it is time to GTFO.

The fact that they recently overlaid the runway would tend to indicate that they don't intend to do anything soon. also, they have night flights now, which would also appear to show that they have installed more advanced NAVAIDS.
In any case, from my own experience of the construction of a regional airport here built to international standards, the whole process is long and draw out, more so because of the poor performance of DOTr. In many cases the airports are Japanese funded through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). So the first stage is to make a proposal for funding, which takes time. Once obtained they need to find the designer by competitive means, who once appointed must prepare all the design and specs for bidding. Then prequalification of bidders, then bidding, then analysis, discussion, negotiation and acceptance of winning bidder (this is usually very slow due to DOTr input). Then award of contract, followed by about 3 years for construction. Apart from this you have land acquisition, which is usually a problem, if purchased from a variety of owners.-

I'm guessing they'll decide (eventially) that just extending the Sibulan runway into the sea is the best solution. Maybe they can borrow/lease China's new island building sand dredging ship for a few days. Problem solved.

I've only been coming to this area for 7 or so years, but it is quite noticeable that there are far more tourists in and around Dumaguete than before. I do not see an international airport in the near future though, Philippine Airlines went from decent service to PAL express where you get bent over on luggage and service down to non existent.
Obviously just my opinion.

The proposed airport in Bacong is about the same story like the SM mall in Dumaguete. For years I have not seen it happen but all the gossip went on for a long time. Some people even posted the exact location, size and pics of this phantasy mall. Or when the Valencia mayor said many years ago they would build a cable car to the mount Talinis. There are more stories like this. Knowing the Philipiines for a long time I got used to it. Here you have to stick to the "I'll believe it when I see it". Filipinos are dreamers and have a lot of wishful thinking.[emoji12]

This has been going on for years. I really cannot see them building a new airport when all they have to do is extend the runway a bit more into the sea and purchase the property immediately off the other end to stop the idiotic tall tree problem we had a few years ago. International use is out of the question. Nowhere enough traffic to support when you consider they would have to take passengers who want to go to Europe, Asia, Australia, America etc etc. Just not on. It's pie in the sky, especially when Cebu is so close. But, to modernize the airport would be a good idea, ILS for landings, etc, more night use perhaps.

It's about 3 kilometres to the new airport, so I think they might be onto a winner. Thinking price will go up around that area. 1.5 sqm-

The new road from theBacong-Valencia highway to the new Bacong airport is being paved in many areas including 1/2
kilometer up the hill from my house. I’m guessing the airport will be about a kilometer south of my house.-

I think it has more to do with demand than anything else. Dumaguete is not a major destination for most tourists. Dumaguete's infrastructure and hotel presence already struggles to handle the current local/expat/tourist population. If you start bringing in a bunch of tourists the place will be complete gridlock during the day.
