Life is not easy if you are used to white bread dipped in coffee so you can chew it

When Ludwig opened the second shop in Dumaguete, I was thinking the original in Valencia would close. I was gratified that it didn't, and very happy when they expanded and remodeled in Valencia. Boy, that didn't last. Reading (hearing?) between the lines from the young lady still selling the rye and other bread at the Sunday market, it sounds like the Valencia store was sold to (maybe) new Filipino investors who fairly quickly decided to close it.

I thought both were called "Ludwigs"?

They are both Ludwig's. I think when the Dumaguete location opened they both had the same owner. Talking to "Ludwig" one day in Dumaguete last year that is the impression I got. But he (his wife/GF, that is) probably sold the one in Valencia to Filipinos.

Maybe if they had changed the name to Wig-Wig's German Bakery it may have worked!?!

This is where I buy my bread either whole wheat or dark rye which is excellent - Ludwigs German Bakery opposite the Hypermarket and close to Mandaue Foam.

The bread is baked by Ludwig I understand whereas the Ludwig Bakery Cafe in Valencia is now a separate business using his recipes perhaps? Haven't tried her bread yet but will do so next trip up to the Sunday markets.

I think it is the same for dogs called 'German Shepherds' - they can have different owners.

Dark rye and potatoes were basic food in my childhood, happy if I can get that no matter where I am. Bakery in Valencia had 2 owners, different point of view on the business, so they closed it. The girl/woman who makes the bread was selling it on Valencia market on Sundays. She has 7 weeks holiday abroad, so no bread in the Valencia market on Sundays for now. I buy my dark rye in Dumaguete and happy with that, good quality of bread the also sell a few other items, salami, jam with no sugar etc.

FWIW, the former Valencia Ludwig's location has a new restaurant which appears to be open, with a grand opening in September. It's called Lami-Ahh. Looked at the menu and it is strictly Filipino. (It's so hard to find that cuisine around here!)
