    Greetings Everyone,

Guess it is a good idea to make an introduction of myself on this forum since I am a new member.

Have been in Dumaguete for several years..came to the Philippines first as a layover in Manila on my way to my new assignment in Thailand and Hanoi back in the mid 90's.

My second trip was from Det2 in Hanoi to Cebu/Moaboal for my R&R.

My 3rd trip was for dental work in Cebu..stayed at several hotels. Had crown replacements.

My 4th trip was after Hurricane Katrina, in South Mississippi. Decided to stay.

Retired from the army, managed a few motels on the Mississippi Gulf coast and bought a small business in a shopping mall. The business was 100% loss due to Katrina. Settled everything and departed to Cebu. Met an American who recommended Dumaguete

My military career consisted being a tank commander, an instructor, attended the Defense Security Assistance Agency school where I was taught Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and International Military Education and Training (IMET).

This led to several overseas Embassy, DOD, NATO and USLO assignments.

Have never been in Special Operations or a sniper. When I was in Naples, Italy at AFSOUTH a recruiter asked if I wanted to volunteer for DELTA in an administrative capacity but declined.

It is my understanding there are many former Special Ops types in Dumaguete. During my career did meet a few...one who repeatedly smashed his forehead with an thick, glass beer mug while shouting a chant in a bar in Djibouti. Several French Foreign Legion troops and I stared...and wondered what the heck was that.

    Anyway glad to be here.

nice to have you on board. great intro

... hmmm so it is a general safety issue to serve all that special forces in a fast food joint downtown their unlimited coffee in paper-cups...

I might have a life-saver for that guy in Djibouti:

Welcome aboard Dancingrabbit. I'm familiar with AFSOUTH too, with frequent connections in the 80s/90s. Fantastic posting for 6 months, after that I got itchy feet.

Bad luck on your losses from Katrina, so I hope life continues to improve for you here.

    Welcome Dancingrabbit.

Sound's like he just had an itch on his forehead.

AFSOUTH is a nice place but NAPLES seemed depressing, don't believe I would enjoy a posting there. How are you liking Dumaguete so far? If only they had PHO and Coffee su nom.
