New NORSU President To Assess School Operation

    The newly-installed president of the Negros Oriental State University, Joel Patnubay Limson, said he will have to make a lot of assessment on the operation of the state university, adding he was moved by the overwhelming reception he received when he arrived from Iloilo City Wednesday.

    He said the warm welcome given him came from students, parents, two faculty unions and other stakeholders, and he said he hoped to unite all parties for the betterment of the university.

    Limson emphasized the need to immediately address some of the major issues and concerns presented by the students and personnel during a public forum late last year, among those is the construction of additional classrooms and comfort rooms, to cater to more enrollees.

    He said he will look into the financial condition of the university to finance various undertakings. He was told that NORSU has about P500 million in its coffers.

    They will also tackle problems on the enrolment system, even as the Board of Regents has already put a stop to the illegal and unnecessary collection from students. Limson said he will strictly implement this decision.

    Observers said they believe Limson will be the unifying factor, as he comes from a neutral ground. He will soon meet, confer with and listen to all sides, to apprise himself of concerns and issues in an effort to attain NORSU's vision and mission, Limson said.
