Hello everybody,
I am 53 years old, a retired former IT specialist from germany. Together with my live-in-partner and our six week old son we are staying in Bacong. You can find me/us on Dgte public market, Robinsons and Lee Plaza :-) After some time of lurking I find this forum very useful for all kinds of information one living here is in need for.
Please excuse the current level of my knowledge of english language, it hopefully improves month by month.
Regards, Solid_Pan

Yes, this forum will guide you greatly. It takes a while to get to know the complex city layout and thus the location of stores you may need - and where to find certain items. So fire away and people here will help you.-

All jokes aside, Please.
I first set foot in the PI in January 1967. Retired here 9 years ago. Married a Dumaguete Lady 32 years ago right here at Silliman University Church and I still cannot speak any other languages other than english. I do, how ever, do a fair job at speaking DOG. When I growl at my dogs they know that it is time for then to find another place to park their drown buts, or the steel towed boot is headed their way.
I cannot count how many times I have had Filipinos apologize for their english. I always tell them no need to apologize, I'm the one here in your country and cannot speak Filipino! I always look at it this way as long as we can communicate I really do not care if you speak more than one language because I'm the ignorant one that is not bilingual. So thank all you Filipinos and foreigners for being able to speaking english and I hope you will not hold it against me for being monolingual.
My two centavos.-

I knew for 1 mio. % a member would post this. Usual reaction of english speaking people. Expats having another mother tongue than english experience this quite often. So a group of Germans, Norwegians, French, aso sitting together and are talking in their own language. Reaction of especially Americans sitting alone or in a minority at same table or nearby would say: Speak english ! We will, when we have to. Not our fault you are too lazy to learn other languages. But don't worry. We continue in English. Forgive us, we made a small welcome to the new member in german.[emoji12][emoji12][emoji12]. I can translate it for you if you wish. And a small mesage to the new member solid_pan: You are a former IT-specialist, why you don't start a Dumaguete Forum in German ? Or ask the adminstrator of this one to add a german section. So jimeve does'nt feel insulted anymore.
