Most are prepaid. Buy a Smart sim card, add (load) 1k pesos to it and text "499 on" to 2200 for 1GB of data. (so P500 for load and P499 for data, should last you at least a month.)

Smart, Globe and Sun have prepaid sim cards for internet.
Look on the website for instance from Sun:Sun Cellular

Smart has the best signal in the Philippines on average in my experience. Avoid Sun and Red mobile. If you plan on traveling.

    data plan versus wired internet

What is the best between data plan on cellphone and wired internet at home. Presently in Bacong, where my tenant is it's not really good (globe wired). I would guess it's not fast but be just right for email with data enabled on the phone.

As far as i know there is no "wired" Internet in Bacong. Home Internet is sent wireless. It certainly will be faster than mobile though (I don't believe they get 3g out there). I use both my home Internet and mobile. Mobile is my backup when globe takes a sh*t on me, which is quite often. Mobile is fast enough to check emails and do basic browsing. Won't be doing any bandwidth intensive activities though.

Sky Cable and PLDT wired internet are available in parts of Bacong. Usually you have to be relatively close to the highway to get either one.

Ill be in Dumaguete on Dec 29th - Jan 9th. Was planning on staying at the Dumaguete Studio Apartments. Emailed the guy and he says you must wire him the whole amount+ in advance for me to book the room.

Alittle wary of wire that much to someone's personal account. Is that place usually booked? Would much prefer to just show up and get a room.
