    I don't know.
We just found it wasn't the same, hard to explain but wife felt the same. One thing It seamed everyone had a hand out much more than before. People seam to be doing it really hard, more so than normal. Prices are a lot more than before, yeah sure I understand inflation but felt like everyone was taking the p*ss. E.G we use to pay 3000p for a van Cebu air port down south now we paid 5500p and was quoted up to 6500p. That was just one thing and the first when we landed. Welcome to the Philippines. The wife saw the same when she would go out without me so we are not talking foreigner tax.
But you guys are on the ground maybe it was just me.

JB you ask if Thailand is a option.
Thailand was so much cheaper than Philippines (excluding school) and no one asking for had outs, food was awesome and you can get a good coffee anywhere. Place is clean, somewhat organised and very safe. Plus the roads are in super good condition. Finding a good quality rental house was very easy and so much to chose from. They have a massive over supply of houses for rent and sale.

We all loved our stay in Chiang mai but it still comes back to the education and why we didn't stay or go back.

We have discussed when the youngest is in University in Australia maybe the wife and I try again, I will still be early 60"s

Not everyone goes for the women.

Sure I am married to a Filipina but I met her in Australia. I traveled a fair bit to Philippines and Thailand before I met her but it was always for other reasons and women were not part of my trips.

They weren't taking a p*ss. Two years ago it cost me P2,000 to fill up my my car, now it is over P3,400. Petrol prices are getting out of control. Many petrol companies do currently offer huge member discounts though. All you need to do is multiply your monthly petrol budget by 12 and then go invest that amount in some petrol stocks...you now have free fuel.

Easy to avoid. Just don't shop anywhere that doesn't have prices listed. Basically if it does not have climate control, website or mobile app I don't spend money there. You can even get a trike in town through Grab now. There aren't many things left that you need to haggle or go in blind with. It might be a bit more expensive than haggling for every single item you buy but I'm not from a culture where that is the norm so I'm just not good at it nor do I have the patience for it. I value time and mine is worth more than a few pesos.

I just don't get the hand out requests like I used to. If I'm with someone and their family comes for a hand out I just tell them "that's not my problem. I don't support my own family, I will never support someone else's". I didn't put them in the situation they are in, I'm not getting them out of it. I just don't care. If they don't like it they know where the door is. I have actually noticed the opposite. More women here are employed and independent. They will shame their family for even asking for a handout. On fb and dating sites it is becoming rare to find a woman that isn't working or has some way of supporting herselves. Some of them are even demanding that they pay for their own drink/food when going out or that the second date is on them. This NEVER happened to me just 5 years ago.

As for beggars, it seems the same as it has always been. If a person is doing nothing of value for me they get nothing. I just do what their own parents and government have done: tell them no and barely register they exist.

The hand outs / beggars was mainly up in Cebu city by random people, I don't have a need to support family or friends.

The fuel is nuts expensive, Philippines fuel is the same as in Australia yet they have very little money. Food was a noticeable difference.

I didn't notice the price increases as much in Thailand. Transport was similar prices to 2019 same with food. Rent had dropped. I did notice more freelancers (hookers) hanging out on the streets rather than bars in Bangkok and also a few more homeless on the streets in CNX but not massive numbers.

Sorry it doesn't work for you. Obviously, it is an adjustment for most foreigners. Good luck wherever you find your home. Stay safe Oz

Just saying myself, sure however devil's advocate etc. Nothing is black n white. Either or are not for everyone. I guess if you clearly know what you want then that makes it a lot easier.

Yes do go on.... understand where you coming from however not sure about 60% unless you're a wage slave?

Surgery like everywhere is a case of insurance or having the funds. NHS is still a nice fall back, just over stretched.

Nowhere is perfect, what going to do in Dumaguete if get hit with a serious medical issue? Cross your fingers and pray. Cebu is not around the corner... there again ignore perhaps as life is short enough.

    Just saying....

Most do especially when under 60. Know I did, went all over especially dating, Padigan City and Ozamiz City. Most have done Angeles, long dusty road, take away the women and no one would go there FACT.

Done most other Asian countries, but after years of it kind of gets boring and superficial. Some carry on regardless till they drop dead from viagra or falling off balcony syndrome ha ha.

UK is in a real mess, EU too what with the war started by Russia. Glad to get away from UK sewage politics, woke LBGTB BLM uncontrolled illegal immigration etc etc. Philippines might be backward BUT at least you don't expect it to be anything else!
